You're just too charming Katie...Weee! In Hawaii we make juk when we have leftover cooked fowl. We boil it with rice, water and ginger and whatever other goodies we have on stock (shitake, green onion, etc). The cooked fowl flavors the broth. Add a squirt of lemon and shoyu and ono broke da mouth!
Alohaaa Mary! Katie here. Awesome that you guys have juk in Hawaii! Sounds better than our version haha. When you coming to Korea - that is the real question...
well as an Indonesian I think I should familiarize with those spices, but next time I will try it. In my country every make porridge using coconut milk in rice, sprinkled chicken ,fried shallot, 'emping' crackers, chicken broth with a bit of turmeric and other spices hehe.. thanks for the recipe.
Hi Katie, it's always nice to see you😊 To me, this recipe looks good for a warm and light dinner, yummy 😄 Eat well, and take care of yourself so that you don't get sick.
Hi Aimie 👋🏽, katie here! Yeah you can totally have it on a normal day too :) In fact, I had one for breakfast this morning! If you're looking for a light meal, then it's the way to go! Take care until our next video! ❤️
thank you! i’ve currently gotten sick and my mom has suggested i eat foods that’ll be easier on my stomach such as rice and toast and stuff... only problem is, rice is the only thing that isn’t giving me pain. i’ve been looking for different ways to have rice. can’t wait to eat it tonight 😋
Egg rice porridge is the best when you're sick..i always have them as it is the easiest porridge to make when you are sick and want to get better quickly
this is acc so good.. I like mine to be more bloated like the chinese style congee so i just added more water and boiling time. I COULDNT FIND ANY ANCHOVIES AND I SWEAR I HAD IT so i substituted it with fish sauce^^ I also added two eggs and instead of putting the eggs in and mixing slowly (to have egg chunks) I mixed it in fast while taking it off the heat so it incorporates into the porridge (porridge to have egg taste). And i just followed the seasonings just adding a little less of each bc i think i added too much fish sauce hehehe ANYWAYS ITS O GOOD IM HAPPY✨✨😂
New subscriber here! I gotta try this, I caught cold just recently, this should help. I wanted to eat some simple and comforting mushy soupy thing like this porridge but Indonesian porridge is a bit too complicated to prepare when you’re sick and living abroad. Thanks for the recipe and keep up the good work both, love you ❤️
yes thank you! an even faster way to get a broth if you dont have anchovies is to use bone broth or chicken stock instead of water! or add anchovy dashida :)
You two are so fun! Thank you for this! I have been curious. Now I can pick up the couple of ingredients I don't have (anchovies/soup soy sauce) and make it, myself. My main trouble watching your videos, is it's hard to stop! The food looks so yummy, too!
This looked yummy. Where I am in the U.K they are useless at catering for international cuisine. I was wondering, instead of using achovy stock, could we just improvise and use any other stock we feel like? Awesome video by the way! ^^
Hello YorozuyaNeesan! Katie here~ I lived in the UK for a while, and I remember the Korean food there was pretty expensive... You can use your choice of stock pretty much here. If you don't like anchovy stock, then try a vegetable stock or use kombu instead of anchovy. Let me know how your porridge comes out! Have an awesome weekend 💕
Hey fellow coder! Love your guys' videos! Could you guys make a video on basic ingredients to have in the kitchen? I noticed there are many similar ingredients. Thank you!
Samovar tea house in Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco has yummy jook, it's quite fancy and not plain, not sure how good it would be for an upset tummy, but it's so delicious!
so goofy, but I love it. keep making videos Katie! that porridge looked really yummy. are there any other soups/stews or foods that you have might in Korea for other ailments. Like for colds, my mom would make chicken noodle soup.
Hello T Fields-Lewis! Katie here~~ Oooh, chicken noodle soup sounds like a good one to get the warmth and energy back. There are other types of rice porridges we have like vegetable one or beef porridge. I also like to have shrimp or seafood porridge when I feel like no appetite... Have a great weekend btw!
So yummy!!! I love your Channel. You and your sweet wife are so fun to watch. Love the Asian cooking with fun music and easy recipes for newbies like me
Nana Blackstones absolutely, but it’s just less traditional. If you did it that way and not add rice, it’s almost Chinese egg drop soup (obviously you’d need some extra ingredients)
The problem is ; i can't stand the texture of rice porridge. I tried cooking it once but i puked it back up , it tasted good but i don't go on flavor , i go on texture. It really sucks since i really like how it tastes :(
Do you have Twitter or something where I could private message because I have a very serious question that I need to have answered and it's a Korean question. Don't worry I'm not looking for a recipe! :-)
Why does everybody in the world get food poisoning except me?! Most likely because it's not food poisoning that all of these people have! Elizabeth MD PhD nutrition science and I have eaten some questionable vegan food and still didn't get sick I also have severely bad gastroparesis no muscle movement. I didn't ever get food poisoning! Can I replace the egg with a little bit of soft tofu in place of the egg? I do have an egg substitute though that tastes pretty good.
Really? I'm jealous. Perhaps you have been blessed with loads of good enzymes in your gut. Lot of probiotics, make you resilient? I usually get food poisoning once a year. Especially from dairy products or cheese.
Future Neighbor yes really. No I'm not blessed with anything because I have severe gastroparesis which means a horrible digestive system. At first I thought this reply came from if you are who was trying to put me down. I have had many many illnesses but not food poisoning. Food poisoning it's very hard to diagnose because it looks like so many other things as well. I have had 24 hour stomach bugs where I was sick but it wasn't traced back to food because nothing out of the ordinary was eaten and I had only eaten at home. Oh! By the way it wasn't the tofu in the white soondubu jjigae I was making. I ordered Chinese food last night and I got the fried tofu with vegetables. The tofu taste it horribly bitter again and so did other things that I hate after that. So it's me and I run into this problem every now and then and I have a way to take care of it so food tastes normal again period being vegan I like and need my tofu! :-)
Zen Yorkfield >> True but to be fair the Korean style is supposed to be lazy because it’s usually prepared when you’re sick. I’m doing it even lazier as I write this with no stock or egg. Plain water and only sesame oil. I’m too nauseous to do anything beyond that.
Thank you so much for this!!!! I was really sick awhile ago and my gfs grandma made me this, I felt better afterwards! Now my whole family is sick...gonna make this❤️
Can I get away with using dashi stock powder? That's all we have here. I'm used to boiling chicken bones and rice and ginger for 2 hrs to make something like this, but this is easier and quicker..
