In this video I decide to take a deeper dive in to the world of epoxy pours and specifically a "deep pour" by creating a custom cutting board. I consider this video a how-to and how-not-to guide on making these custom creations.
Basically, I 'm taking the time to run through the highs and lows in a effort to learn more about effective epoxy pours we don't waste my time or money when tackling bigger epoxy projects. Hope this helps you learn from my mistakes, and I encourage you to leave a comment below if you have a question that I did not answer in the video. Thanks for watching!

Let me know - How much would you be willing to spend on a custom cutting board? What would you do differently to make this a more sellable piece?

Great video. I think it came out beautiful. Unfortunately, I sell my stuff at a consignment store and the buyers are very cheap. It took me about 3 months to sell a 49 dollar cutting board that would usually go for about $80. You wouldn't have a video on how you made the mold do you? That's where I screw up.

Sounds like selling on consignment may be the bigger issue. I do not have a mold specfic video, but have you considered doing craft shows. A board like this would sell from 75$-$150 depending on the level of craft show you are doing. Just a thought. I don't sell on consignment or online shops like ETSY for this reason - I don't feel I get enough return on investment. Just my .02 - best of luck to you and thanks for watching!

Should you use sharp knives on epoxy?
@theimaginationwoodshop5886
@theimaginationwoodshop5886 10 месяцев назад
It's a great question. Knife use on exopy will mar and scratch it over time. That is a major reason the wood in this design is in the primary cutting area and the exopy is used on the edges. Wood is also easier to refresh, but yes, ultimately a knife is going to leave marks on all materials. If you are looking to make a cutting board for heavy use, I would make an end grain board with exopy accents that would not be in the primary cutting area. Hope this helps, and best of luck!

@@theimaginationwoodshop5886 thanks for the reply. I was more concerned that bits of epoxy woukd end up on the blade, and therefore into the food. I've seen people test this and that seems to be what happens.

Seems like a possibility, but that epoxy is rock hard, so I would imagine this risk for that is very small. Plus, it would probably be a negligible amount. Having never personally tested it, those are just my guesses and opinion. I appreciate the food for thought question though! Thanks!

Torch is much cheaper than vacuum chamber.

I agree with you. Honestly, haven't been as impressed with the vaccum chamber as I hoped I would be.

Sir , tell me size of table
@theimaginationwoodshop5886
@theimaginationwoodshop5886 Год назад
The table? The cutting board is around 12" x 18". I made a epoxy desk recently as well. That measured 53" x 24". Hope this answers your question.

This one I ended up giving away in a contest, but I would sell a cutting board like this for around 70-100$ based on material cost and labor.

ehh. To each their own I suppose. Honestly, the music in my videos is one of my favorite things. It can take a regular video and add the emotion and power in my opinion, so I don't see that changing anytime soon. I do appreciate your input though, and thanks for watching!

Rule #1 Epoxy is not food safe for use in a cutting board and car wax most definitely is not..That's jusy crazy
@theimaginationwoodshop5886
@theimaginationwoodshop5886 Год назад
Thanks for the comments, love the interaction. I am going to disagree though. Believe it or not, fully cured exopy is safe to eat off of in most cases, and is very common in cutting boards and charcuterie boards. The chemicals in the curing agents are toxic so don't drink epoxy, and I don't know if I would eat steak off of it, but cutting up cheese, bread, etc... that is more than fine. Also, fun fact - carnuba wax is also 100% food safe, so not crazy at all. Now, the wood portion of this board is also the main cutting area and is sealed in a mineral oil and beeswax combination - all okay as well. Thanks!

Well said and factual. Keep doing you. I hate when people don't research and treat others who are doing it like they are incompetent but yet prove how incompetent they are in their own statement.😂😂😂
