Another thing this works very well on is windows. Very easy to take down, even years later. You wash the window and would never know it had been there. I didn't use a roller. I just soaked the fabric in the liquid starch, and hung it up wet. Made smoothing it out very simple. Make sure you have a fabric that will not shrink, or prewash it.

I just bought clearance fabric from Ballard, $12.99 yard marked down from $129.00 yard, awesome deal and a beautiful neutral modern design. Only needed one yard for doing wall above my secretary. It’s upholstery fabric and I love the frayed edges on all cut sides, gives it more texture. So I’m using no sew tape along underside edges just where fraying stops to make sure it stays stopped, lol. And then I’m using coordinating nailhead trim or maybe making faux hammered thin iron strips, still playing with what I want to use. But if I was doing an entire wall I would definitely use your method, mine is more of an accent area or used to define secretary desk area. Was thinking of lining with 1/2 cork & 1/2 sheet metal for cork board and magnets but have decided on farmhouse floating shelves so hanging notes all over it will just make it look cluttered and take away from the beauty of the fabric.

Okay, can I just give you guys immense props for actually having plain fabric?! I don't know what's going on with other online fabric sellers, but it's been like pulling teeth to find just a catalogue of unpatterned gray fabric! I'm going for an industrial vibe for my apartment and cannot paint nor use wallpaper due to the living room's flat paint likely being ruined with the wallpaper glue (even peel and stick cannot be used on flat paint, but fabric wallpaper with starch seems like it will work!) You guys actually look like you might have what I need! Sadly, I'm in the midst of a job hunt but have been compiling a list of what I want for my place once the money starts rolling in again, lol. And your fabric is now st the top of my list! Thank you!

Thanks for the video. Very helpful. I was looking to do rhis over some gross ancient wallpaper that was understand some other wallpaper I peeled...ugh..lol. Should your fabric wallpaper technique work for covering old wallpaper?
@onlinefabricstore
@onlinefabricstore 4 года назад
Hi Cynthia, I feel your pain! I had to get through 5 layers of old wallpaper at my house and have more rooms to do. My concern with putting fabric over the old wallpaper is the starch when wet might loosen the wallpaper glue making the wallpaper underneath not well attached to the wall. But if the existing wallpaper is really on there well and the walls are smooth, it would probably work. If your ancient wallpaper is like mine with a brown paper backing, it's possible it could stain the back of the fabric a bit so it'd be best to test it out before committing. Good luck!

This is a great video, and I plan to try it in my home for an accent wall. Every step was presented well, but I had one question -- On prewashing the fabric, what are the conditions you use? I will be using a standard cotton fabric from Spoonflower, and I'll probably need 6-8 yards. Do I wash in cold water using a gentle cycle? Cold water? Detergent? Leave it all in one big piece? How about drying it and ironing out the wrinkles? Thanks
@onlinefabricstore
@onlinefabricstore 2 года назад
I would wash it with warm water on a gentle cycle with detergent and then hanging it to dry or drying on cold. I would also recommend washing in one big piece and then ironing it out.

Could I use this method on a painted wood dresser without the paint peeling??
@Klutzy68

This is great! I’m thinking of doing a kitchen backsplash with oil cloth. I’m guessing I would only put starch on the underside, is that right? If I used regular fabric, how could I make it water resistant? I’m heading over to your website right now to look at your fabric!
@onlinefabricstore
@onlinefabricstore 2 года назад
I haven't tried it, but I doubt this method would work with oilcloth because it wouldn't absorb the starch. My best suggestion would be to use a cotton fabric and then add a vinyl laminate after it's applied to the wall and dried. Again I haven't tried this but it's my best guess! You could use oilcloth but you would probably have to use a spray adhesive instead of starch. We carry vinyl laminate which you can find here: www.onlinefabricstore.com/product-group-interfacing-and-stabilizers.aspx?product=stabilizers&product_sub_group=vinyl-laminate

Thank you for this tutorial! I want to do a wallpaper border (my apt did a hideous job on the dry wall so you can see the dry wall seam in the middle of the wall) and I was wondering if it would work using this method. My concern of course would be visible jagged edges since I wouldn’t have anything to hide them. Will the starch prevent the jagged edges? Or should I turn in the edges, iron flat, and then put it onto the wall?
@onlinefabricstore
@onlinefabricstore 6 лет назад
After the starch is dry, you can go over the raw edge to cut off any loose strings, but it would look best if you folded the edge under. Just make sure it's fully saturated with starch and that should work fine.
