She ses beeswax which is used as an emulsifier. She still should add a preservative to stop moulds and bacteria.

Helen Zelinski I'm sorry Helen but that is incorrect. Peer-reviewed scientific studies have tested GSE and found that pure, natural GSE has none of those qualities - it is ONLY an antioxidant. If you buy the GSE which has other additives to it, then you will find it has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties suitable for preserving lotions and body products :-)

Germaben II Germaben II is a convenient, ready-to-use broad spectrum anti-microbial preservative for personal care products such as shampoos, conditioners, lotions, creams, body sprays and other formulations. It is highly effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria, yeasts and molds and does not need any additional preservatives. It is a clear, viscous liquid with mild odor. It is soluble in both oil/water emulsions and aqueous formulations up to a level of 1.0%. At 1%, Germaben II provides 0.30% Germall II, 0.11% methylparaben, 0.03% propylparaben, and 0.56% propylene glycol. Germaben II should be added slowly to your product under gentle agitation before the addition of fragrance oil. Recommended usage rates are provided only as guidelines for proper preservation. Our teacher told us to never use botanicals. How is it that this lady is using aloe without a problem (assuming she adds preservative)? Was our teacher thinking more about fresh botanicals versus tea leaves, powders and stabilized liquid forms like this aloe gel / juice or rose water?

Thank you so much for this great formula!!! I made some little changes and now this is my best recipe for face and body cream. I use coconut butter, Shea butter, apricot kernel oil, aloe Vera gel, vitamin E, chamomile tea, chamomile essential oil and beeswax. I love it so much :)

What kind of wax did you use? Is't the one using for waxing

This is not a stable formulation. What you are experiencing is separation of the cream because it's not properly made. You're relying simply on beeswax and some small carbomer in the aloe gel to hold everything together. And on top of that there is no preservative so this will filled with bacteria and mold making the product unstable and unsafe to put on your face.

you should also wisk it longer.. i saw a video of a recipe for whipped shea butter and they recommend to wisk your mixture for at least 45 min and then the texture will stay fluffy and smooth. i will try it out myself soon so i am not so sure but this is whats recommended in other videos

All products that are natural and contain beeswax last only 3 to 4 weeks. They change in smell and grow mould. That's how you know. Beeswax is actually not a preservative as most think. All natural home made cold creams and face/body creams with these ingredients have a short shelf life. Always make small batches in the 50 ml sizes and keep in the fridge in hot weather. I've been making these for over 20 years.

Mette Glargaard Egg whites will reduce shelf life even more. Because she includes water based ingredients & doesn't use a preservative, this is only good for about a week if kept in the fridge. Microbes, bacteria etc will grow otherwise. Any emulsifying wax will work. Just do a search online.

It's not you. She didn't use a proper emulsifier. This is a recipe for failure.

How did you get round the separation problem?

Tammy, thanks for the reminder about the preservative' I do add a preservative at 1%. I've made this recipe and it does not come apart (if you don't overcook the shea). I think your delivery of the reminder was not very polite though.

Vitamin E will preserve your cream depending if you are using organic certified ingredients . 6 weeks stored in the fridge with lid firmly placed back on . 4 or less weeks at room temperature depending on your climat location . Oils deteriorates quickly and bacterias becomes an issue . Discard your preparation after that time

Never , ever use cooking oil in your preparation , they have no value or benefit for your skin . Be vigilant with your products , insist on organic and certified ingredients , your preparation will be great

If you want a preservative, I recommend a mild preservative, any product that have water NEEDS preservative, tea tee, vitamin E, grapefruit extract and others are good antioxidants, they don.t protect your cream from get all the microscopic yucky stuff.

Katie Howell The other replies are correct. oils will start to smell bad without an antioxidant. Mildew/mold will grow without a preservative. You can refrigerate this and it will last a few weeks without any additives.

About 1-2 weeks when kept in the fridge. If you want it to last longer you would need an antimicrobial preserving agent.
