I haven't been able to find the molds you are using to make the pearls on your site. I looked under the heading of molds, silicone molds, and pearl mold but found nothing. Where are these molds????? Also, which size pearl would be good to put on a three or 4 inch cookie? Thank you.
When you search for "pearl mold" several come up. It's the blue one that has 10mm, 8mm, and 6mm on the same mold for $23.00. You would use the 6mm for cookies. We also have a main category of "RU-vid - . ." in the left column and then there is a link for "Fondant Pearl Video."
I am thinking of making a cake that has a string of beads on top as well as modelling chocolate roses. Fondant will melt or become sticky, as the cake has warm jelly poured over it. It does have a Ganache coating before the decorations are applied. Would ganache work in the moulds if you can't use modelling chocolate? If I can use modelling chocolate in those moulds it would be great. If I made the beads separately, what should I join them together with-tiny bits of modelling chocolate? They are joined together in the video. As far as I can tell, they haven't invented edible string, yet.
well, yes, I base my opinion on the fact that I have worked with different materials and made beads out of them and it seemed to go rather fast. I also worked with mold occasionally and it did seem to work a lot faster. I also appreciate that the result is not in accordance with the amount of work done. I also watched some other vids with people working with fondants, no molds, and they seemed a lot faster, too. But I never worked with fondant myself so I cannot be 100% sure.
Great tutorial and I'll be purchasing the mold soon. I have a wedding cake for June 14 and would like to get started on the pearl border. How much in advance can I make the border and how would I keep it from hardening? Thanks in advance.
You can only make them a few hours or a day in advance since they must be soft and flexible. You can make several and lay on a non-stick board inside a large zip-top bag.
Ah okay, your phrasing reminded me of a couple of French people I knew. Ah yes dear Spell Check, yes it helps a great deal...especially for the English! hahahahaha! xx
So you've never tried and yet have an opinion? You also consider this five minute video to be complicated? Okay. Bless you, you strange and worrying person. lol! xx
If you put the fondant or gumpaste in the mold and then just use a small fondant roller to roll over it you will find it much much faster (a few seconds only). Then you can take a fondant knife (plastic) and just slide it across the excess and suddenly you have pearls. Easy and very quick. And no it's not easier to make all the pearly by hand because they would not be exactly the same shape and size. Also, i you start at one end of the mold and push and lift up rather than trying to push out the whole thing at one time it is easier. Hope this helps.
