If you want to make it a bit more active spread some uncooked hemp seed out on a baking tray, give it a little dash of oil and pop it in the oven at about 175 for 15-20mins until brown. Once they've cooled chuck it in the blender and blitz it down, once added to your groundbait base mix it will fizz, rise and fall just like the commercial 'active' mixes.

Lets be honest here,a lot of us British anglers (not all !!!) are bloody lazy and would rather spend bloomin fortunes on shop brought baits etc... when there's really no need !!! Ok it's up to the individual how they spend their money but a little thought and application etc... can save you money and go some way to catching that fish of a lifetime. The only tackle shop bait i spend money on is maggots. Other than that it's supermarket and pet food/animal supples shops. Enjoying the ingenuity of all the bait ideas etc... I'll definitely be trying out your ideas,liked & subscribed 👍👍👍

Interesting blend. Instead of biscuits, I use dryd dog food & dry cat food. As it adds that attention to my mix. As here in Canada there isn't alot of, fishing tackle stores that sell ground bait mix 🤨. You can't even get maggots, I had to make my own maggot farm. Trout fishing guys hate me, catching more than them 😂😂😂

My groundbait mix for tomorrow's trip, biscuit and oat crumb " digestives and hobnobs" , mixed with fine bread powder, with particils of left over lotus root finly chopped, and sweet corn, soaked in golden syrup overnight, with extra feed particils of crushed dog biscit and dead maggots.. for a rich sugery and biscuity scent with enough particils to attract the rudd and bream and hopefully keep them mulching around long enough to catch more than one.. great minds realy do think alike indeed, i'm a beginer angler and cannot fund those fobbish overflavered and priced market brand mixs.. so its old school for me. after all you don't need to pay £60 for a tub of ice-cream flavered boiles with pellets made of the exact base ingredients found in your mums baking cubard? homemaking the simple days baits is not only better for your mindset but for your empty wallet too..

Hi there. Just watched your video great stuff. I watch loads of fishing videos and do your realise how many professional anglers dismiss bread as a ground bait or as a bait. I too use as much other material for ground bait as possible. Old bread & biscuits , cheap porridge , animal feed and I use milk shake to flavour the ground bait. There's lots of things we can use to flavour ground bait ,herbs powders or sauces and its not as dear as the fishing tackle shop stuff.

Hiya Robert, thanks for watching :) Some of the anglers on here making videos are sponsored by the bait companies; fair play to them for demonstrating the products, but like you say, there are plenty of ways to make bait! Milkshake in groundbait is a good shout, I’m going to test that one out! Tight lines

Very interesting video friend. Been years since I went fishing and my mindset then was It's not the bait you use, it's knowing where the fish are, and attracting them into a feeding frenzy. Planning to go again soon with my nephew for specimen carp, but google searching for days on bollies, groundbaits, glugs blae blae gave me a headache and gave up. Costs a fortune for a day's + fishing so making cheaper I'm interested. Tight lines from Wrexham N.Wales

@@FishingAroundUK Thanks for your reply, I will watch it today and use it, with a few tweak's of my own 😂😂. There is a ground bait I came across on YT: Cabbage, lettuce, carrot, beetroot, spinach and sure that was it but I would add kale, dehydrated tomatoes, cucumbers, sweetcorn, hemp seed, snail flakes and shell, then blend into a powder. I would add your ground bait as a binder. Additionally on the bank adding chopped up worm, dead maggots and casters, fresh bloodworm's, snails and krill. Your opinion would be much appreciated on what home-made glugs etc, you would add if any. Tight lines friend.
@FishingAroundUK

That’s a lot of ingredients! A fairly specialised mix for carp from the sound of it, I bet the fish will love it. I did make a video on carp-specific groundbait, which uses frozen berry mix as an alternative to glug or oils. That works really well in the spring when carp are feeding on similar, however with glugs I do think there is an element of watercraft involved. How clear is the water and how fast is the flow plays a big part in deciding what type of groundbait or glug to employ. I would certainly use an oil in my deadbait pike fishing when the river is up and coloured, for example. But on a fine, bright day at a stillwater where the water is clear and I’m fishing over a small carpet of groundbait for carp, I’d be more concerned about my hookbait spooking them if I used glug. A method feeder type arrangement always seems to produce - I do prefer to bait in moderation however, so I am aware not everyone shares my views on the subject! Tight lines

Absolutely Mick, good shout - I like to add garlic or cinnamon, and sometimes the odd bit of food colouring as well. It's a good base groundbait mix that you can build on, and best of all it's very very cheap or free :)

Hello I will be trying this with my cage feeder, a few of questions what kinds of consistency will I need and secondly you mentioned freezing it is it a case of putting it in a air tight bag and taking it out when needed? And what about defrosting? Also what kind of amount would be needed for a day session thank you
@FishingAroundUK
@FishingAroundUK Год назад
Hi there, thanks for watching :) The groundbait works really well in a cage feeder. In terms of consistency, stick to the recipe shown in the video, and then when adding water at the bank, err on the side of caution. You really do not need a lot, less than the powder based shop bought groundbaits. You want the mix sticking to itself, but not to you. For the cage feeder, if it’s a river session you can pack it tighter that you would on a stillwater. For storage, I freeze it all in a plastic tub. The night before the session, I take the tub out of the freezer, and in the morning I fill up my bait box from the tub, and stick the tub back in the freezer. As for the amount you need for a day session, that depends on you and how much bait you are looking to introduce to the swim. I have one of those 1 litre plastic bait boxes, and that amount lasts me all day no problem.

Er u forgot water 😬 This stuff actually isn’t cheap at all, weetabix is £5/kg!!! Cheapo stuff is still £2/kg. I’ve just been to a horse feed outlet and paid 50/kg for 20kg of wheat bran and the same for rolled oats. These places can also get hemp seed for just under £2/kg when “cheapest on eBay” is £2.15/kg.

I'd put the slices on a tray and dry on a low heat it in the oven. Then I'd blend it. The world would be your lobster as to any additives you'd add to it later.
