How to make French Press Coffee
Be your very own barista and make french press coffee at home! I’ll show you how to make a delicious full body tasting coffee in this video.
Using a french press is every bit as easy and fast as using a regular drip type coffee maker. You’ll also be able to tweak some variables to get the flavor perfect for you. You will be using whole beans and grind them yourself for the freshest tasting coffee.
Believe me, once you make coffee using a french press, you’ll be hooked!

To make an individual serving as in the video:
French Press Coffee
Ingredients:
3 Tbsp. of your favorite coffee beans
7 oz. water
Sugar, optional
Half and half organic cream, optional
Tools:
Mini French Press
Wooden spoon
Tablespoon measuring spoon
Instant read thermometer
Sauce pan
Strainer
Directions:
Pour the water into a saucepan over low heat.
Grind 3 Tbsp. of your favorite coffee beans. I used Peet”s Coffee Cafe Domingo, medium roast whole beans.
Pulse the beans in the grinder several times and even tap the top of the grinder to move the grounds around. The goal is to get them evenly grounded up. You’re looking for something like coarse salt.
You can play around with how fine or coarse you want it.
Go check the temperature of your water with that thermometer. Don’t boil the water. If you do, just let it sit until the temperature drops to 190 or even a bit lower. This is another area to play around with.
My son brew’s his coffee around 150 degrees F and likes it that way. He does have to reheat it though after adding cream.
If you want to play around with lower temperatures like this, you might want to brew longer. Just experiment.
Pour the hot water into the french press and add the coffee. Stir with that wooden spoon for about 20 to 30 seconds and then place the press on top to keep the coffee as hot as possible.
Set your timer for 3 minutes or what ever time you want to experiment with.
At the end of three minutes, press the coffee slowly by pushing down on the lever.
Add sugar and creamer if you wish and serve!
Tips:
Grind your own beans, try fine or more coarse
Heat your water somewhere between 150 - 195 degrees F.
Start by using a ratio of beans to water: 3 Tbsp. (before grinding) to 7 oz. water
Have fun experimenting!
I think the best coffee maker is the french press. Try it and let me know if you think so too.
Thanks for watching and sharing!

I got a drip coffee machine for Christmas. I thought it was amazing so I got a French press and it's so better lol. I even now drink my coffee like the Americans no milk or sugar and it's amazing. I use to make fun of Americans for not putting milk and sugar in there coffee but I'm now converted. Oh and great vid.

It is easy. However, this technique... Well use a blade grinder. Heat your press, before. Water at 205. When you put your ground beans into the press, add about 1/3 of the water to "bloom" the coffee. Then stir, pour the rest of the water in for 4 minutes, plunge and enjoy! Oh! No need for milk and sugar if your beans are good quality, freshly roasted...not from the supermarket.

Hello Robin thank you for doing this video as luck would have it I broke my coffee pot Saturday and of course you have to go online to order a replacement so my husband went to Target and purchase a French press. I have a French press and used it regularly for about 2 years. Then Keurig’s came out and I tried that. I’m not particularly happy with it or maybe it’s that I can only have decaffeinated coffee due to a health condition. I’d like to try the French press again with decaffeinated coffee and see if I like it better. I use Peete’s strong decaffeinated. Now I’ll have to see if they sell it in whole beans.

Hi there! I have used various brands of the glass French Presses for a number of years but they always end up getting cracked or chipped fairly quickly. (Accident prone Hubby in the house ;) Plus, we always ended up having to nuke our cup of coffee afterwards to get it hot enough again right after it was poured, (and we do pre-warm our coffee mugs before pouring too). The coffee seemed to cool off too quick in the thin glass presses as it was brewing. Recently, I bought a Double Wall, Vacuum Insulated, Stainless Steel 32 oz. French Press made by Planetary Design, for camping. It is fairly heavy duty and besides being pretty much unbreakable, it works very well to produce HOT coffee! So now we use it every day. I am still struggling to get the ratio of coffee to the hot water figured out. Can you tell me how much ground coffee your 3 TBS of whole beans produced after you ground them? And, did your 7 oz. of water evaporate while being heated, down to 6 oz. by the time you actually poured it into your Press? Also, on a bit diffrent note; What spices are used to brew Mexican Coffee? I taste cinnamon, but It seems there are other spices too. Thank you!

NO NO NO NO, Gary. That is the "bloom" and the coffee shouldn't be stirred down until that bloom rises. Thats where the flavor is. Ground coffee in empty pot, pour the hot water in, let it bloom, stir, put top on and time. Walla great coffee after plunger is slowly lowered.

People who take their coffee really, realllllly, seriously will say that type of grinder isn't suitable for making good coffee. The way the blade tosses everything around means you don't get an even grind, so you'll end up with big(ger) chunks that will under-extract, and finer particles that will over-extract. A grinder with adjustable, conical burrs is the way to go.

+Jim Cheseborough Hi Jim, we haven't had the experience of breaking any French presses! You think they are hard to clean? I mentioned straining the grounds to throw them in the garbage. The rest is an easy wash. Are you having a challenge cleaning the plunger/strainer? One thing I do and should have shown in the video is to fill the press with water about half full and then plunge up and down quickly. This agitation loosens any stuck grounds left in the screen of the plunger. Thanks for the comment.

Instead of French Press, get a Jura machine. 20 seconds to get a cup of amazing coffee, even better flavor than using the French Press. Easy to clean, easy to make. JuraC60 ($800, 20% discount Bed & Bath) will get you the best coffee everyday. I used to do the French Press, the Vietnamese Dripping Coffee, Starbucks, Peet's, WholeFoods, Blue Bottle Coffee... I now enjoy coffee from my two Jura machines (C60 home, A9 work). Very costly @the beginning. But now I save about $300/month by using them.

Wtf is a tbsp of coffee beans!? Coffee beans are a solid so are measured by mass, not volume.
@funstuff2006
@funstuff2006 3 года назад
If you want to get that particular, there are people who advocate weighing the grounds AND the water, so you have a ratio of two masses, so you should be doing it on a digital scale that can be zeroed out (place FP on scale, zero, weigh coffee grounds, zero, weigh water - steep). As long as you are using the same measuring tools every time you can play with the ratio of tbsp to ml/oz until/cups until you get an end result you're happy with.
