How can an introvert Japanese like me make an American friend like you in Japan? Apps like, meetup, hellotalk didn't work at all for me.

Hmm when I first moved to Kyoto I was looking for friends and had a viewer from this area Instagram message me directly. We were around the same age so I agreed to meet up in a popular tourist area to go sightseeing together. We’re still friends to this day! Reaching out and making the first friend move can be hard, but people are usually nice and excited to make friends, especially with people from Japan!

Hello! I was just watching some of your other videos, which I found very helpful. And behold this one is brand new! If you have the time and would like to, I was hoping to ask you just a couple of questions! Do you still live around Kyoto? I only ask because I wish to attend school in Japan within the year, and am now faced with needing to come to a decision on which major city I would like to actually live in. I am torn between attending a school in Kyoto or Tokyo, and I was wondering if you had the chance to do it all over again, would you rather live in a different city/province, or would you still go to Kyoto? Hello! This is a great question. 10000% Kyoto! It’s much cheaper, theres TONS of sightseeing to do here, and always interesting events/festivals going on. It’s also really central, so you can travel to anywhere in Japan. Tokyo is only 2.5 hours away by Shinkansen so you can visit anytime. Hope this helps! And best of luck moving~ ^^

perfect timing! i came to Kyoto 2 weeks ago and I would love to have some friends here. i actually almost signed up for a trial dance lesson in a local dance studio, but it's really scary since my japanese isn't too good yet

Yay welcome!! I def think it’s worth trying the dance class at least once, I think you’ll find people are usually encouraging even if you’re only attempting to speak broken Japanese!

one day i want to go to japan and make japanese friends with my japanese skills. in your experience, do japanese want their american friends to be very outspoken and extroverted? is the reason japanese make friends with foreigners so they can have friends with more life-of-the-party personalities? im very introverted and i like to go places that are not loud to enjoy someones company. will it be harder for me to make a friend?
