If you add salt and black pepper and use plain water you have what the Greeks use in my part of S.C. My family has always made it that way. No mustard, ketchup, tomato paste, cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves, oregano, thyme, sugar, cumin, (chili powder contains cumin), thickening agents, etc. You can use it on hot dogs, add tomatoes, peppers and beans to make chili con carne, add cumin to make taco meat, add other spices to make spaghetti, and so on. I agree with you that this is the most versatile hot dog sauce. Where were you raised?
