Tessie I am 66 and living below poverty level on Social Security and I have only 1 wood stove in my house. It heats the living room and 1 bedroom. The rest of the house kitchen, bathroom and 2nd bedroom stays cold. I am thankful for my stove and yes it is a messy job cleaning the stove and the ashes and dusting and cleaning but when I call and have wood delivered I know I will have heat. It is 40 outside right now and it is 70 in my living room nice and toasty. Hang in there Tessie God has this and he has you and he has me and I stand on the word of God and I am thankful each and everyday for all my many blessings.

Maybe your wood stove is smaller. I'm trying to imagine why it's not heating the whole house. I have a two story 2200 sq. foot home. I fire up the wood stove on Friday and burn it all weekend without having to dump ash. The room it's in is unbearably hot, however, the entire rest of the house is even temperature. Maybe it's because it's a two story and the rise and fall of warm/cold air helps. Anyway....I"m thinking maybe a fan could blow some of that air into another room of your house? Bless you

Everything you said is so true Tessie. I used to complain that I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet. Be grateful for everything you have. You have much more than I. I would love to have just a small piece of land to grow a garden and have a few chickens. That would be Heaven for me. But our Lord said, "Having food and raiment, therewith be content." So, I thank God for what I do have and for you, dear Sister, for sharing your knowledge and experience with me. May God richly bless you even more, Tessie.

Tessie, you are amazing. So many people have no idea how to survive hard times. I'm in my 70s and this past summer my washer died. I started to do my wash by hand and hang up to try. I felt a connection to my grandmother. She had 13 kids, a widower at a young age, and washed all their clothes by hand. She had so much less than what we all have today, yet the kids were always clean, well fed from her small farm, and all grew up to be wonderful people. I'm finding myself wanting a simpler life. On social security and trying to make ends meet. I'm ready for the challenge and I know you are too. We will survive, and be better people for it. Love and a big hug to you. As I said in the beginning, you are amazing.

Did the plunger in the repurposed kitty litter buckets for a few years and then a Ninja dryer. Recently moved, no quarters and decided to tough it out. My community laundry room is closer and when I did get quarters...it is the same set of hassles. Gave away the Ninja misjudging my bathroom size before I moved. Drying small batches ended up taking a long time and caused condensation in the windows. Finally, I was able to budget in an Auertech 20lb twin tub wash machine with a semi automatic pump. These machines have their quirks like I bought several white knee highs in a bubble for eighty cents pair. White to help me monitor lint being drained from the machine and not into the drain. Also, my electrical outlet very close to the bathtub but the stretch as close as I could get it, was extremely tight. Ended up getting an orange indoor-outdoor cord and with the machine when I am using it in the tub, is more centered and a bit easier to work with. Did not choose the smaller 14lb manual drain because I was concerned that I would have to find a chair or stool to balance a machine on and just extra furniture in my tiny bathroom I didn't want to deal with. Went with Auertech because a few commenters online states excellent customer service. Am happy with the extremely powerful 350W wash motor although some users are resorting to about two sweater wash bags to keep certain clothes from tangling and state they do their checks and their clothes come out very clean. The twin tub runs at 130W and that is 1300RPM (revolutions per minute) which had me concerned as my old Ninja Spinner ran at 3200RPM. Like how my twin tub washer and spinner are really working out much nicer than my old apartment set up. Takes the job of wringing completely. This unit easier on my arthritic hands! Can do my laundry in my pajamas, without quarters and trekking to the laundry. Drying in an enclosed tiny bathroom in a humid environment a bit of a challenge but rarely no condensation on the windows. Right now am relying on a combo of HVAC heat and a portable summer fan. Too much energy so I am ready to experiment with a 100W Rv-boat-marinr air dryer next. Please keep in mind my lease and the manager specifiçally stated absolutely no portable heaters allowed in this seniors complex. Will never go back to handwashing. My clothes are much cleaner and I make sure to rinse well per my OCD standards. Am highly recommending you look into one of these gadgets. Was nice for me these past few weeks to finally graduate up to a level of washing system that is working out much better for me. In time, I hope to afford a 3.0 to hook up to the kitchen faucet to do my full-queen sized comforters.

@@abbeyl6115 I recently did purchase for $200 a cost way portable washer with spin dry. But, I can't hook it up to anything yet, so I carry five buckets of water to fill it, start washing light weight and light colored clothes first, then end doing jeans. I rinse by hand and then put in the spinner. I either hang up to dry when weather nice or I put in my electric dryer which still works. Then I have to empty water into four dish pans and carry to empty in sink. These machines do a nice job. I just have to get a hose and find an adapter to attach to sink to fill it. That would make it easier. I can't do blankets either. We old folks learn to make do and survive! Take care Abbey.

I’m so glad I stumbled on your channel today. I was in the mortgage industry at the same time. I had to walk away from that life also in 2007. Went through years of a one income home and decided I would be a SAHM. We lived on very little and qualified for no help. We had to utilize food banks and our budget was $50 a month for food for a family of 4. Now things are different and I’ve been working again for years. But our family fondly remembers the years of being “poor” and truly miss those days. We miss all of the home cooking, gardening…maybe it’s time re-evaluate and get back to those times. We had more family time etc. in some significant ways I feel our life was better.

I’m so sad for the poor of Great Britain. The stories coming out are heartbreaking. Seniors, babies, young families not able to pay for heating, or choosing fuel or food. Homes in terrible disrepair, or people being made homeless with nowhere to go. A real national crisis. I’m 75, snuggling next to my wood burning stove, during this incredible cold snap. We have so much more security here in Canada. A warming centre down the road, a homeless shelter, transitional housing. I know it’s not perfect, and many are suffering, but there is not the feeling of hopelessness like in Great Britain right now.

There are many people over here struggling but not everybody is. I’m a state pensioner on my own with no private pension but as I have no debt and worked to pay off my house , so no mortgage or rent, I manage pretty well. I have the heating on low, feed myself fine, have a good pantry and just get on with it. I think the stories you see on the msm are the worse cases. I have two daughters who are both married, they all have ordinary jobs, young children, mortgages , cars etc and they are managing fine, but neither of them have any debt, not even the cars. We all save for things we want, cook from scratch and live within our means. None of us have had to use a food bank, and help each other out when needed. So not everyone who is ‘poor’ is struggling as the poor families shown on msm whom I think are mainly living in large cities with unscrupulous landlords. I’m not saying everything is fine but I think the majority are managing and getting on with it - well we are where I live. There’s homelessness in the cities but there always has been, there are warm centres, hostels for homeless and the councils should put up people with families in emergency accommodation, even if it’s only bed and breakfast, and I don’t feel hopelessness, more an angry against a government that that seems out of touch with the people it’s supposed to create a better country for.

I felt the need three or four years ago to start putting food back. Everyone thought I was crazy back then, but I had a real urgency at that time. We didn’t really have a need to do this we had plenty. I knew God gave me this urgency. I had no reason on the surface to do this, but I felt strongly that there was going to be a need. I thought maybe God was pushing me because food would be scarce as far as the way the world was looking. I wasn’t certain. I just knew it had to be done. In the past year my husband who was perfectly healthy passed away with Covid at 62. We had been married 37 years. He had also started having an affair with my friend, and neighbor. I am a hairdresser so my insurance was gone for me and my son. I have had two foot surgeries which have stopped me from standing behind a chair for hours. My anxiety over all of this is over the top. The estate is still not settled because my husband changed the will a week before he died. Anyway, that is really the short version of this story. My son and I have food only because I put things back. I rarely go to the grocery store. We don’t eat out. I cook our meals. You never know what life is going to bring. Everyone should have some kind of a pantry. I am thankful I followed God straight into putting things back even when others thought I was nuts. I could never have dreamed of this scenario just a few years down the road. Nothing in this world is certain except your relationship with Christ. PREPARE !! You must….

For 25 years I lived in a home that had electric baseboard heat, but it was too expensive to use. So we heated with a kerosene heater. That meant no heat when we went off or when we went to bed. We never had it on unattended. We slept under so many quilts you could barely turn over, we had weighted blankets before they were an expensive new thing.😀 There were mornings when we were under those toasty quilts that when we breathed out we could see our breath in the bedroom air. We did what we needed to do at the time with the money we had. Circumstances changed and we have central heat and air that are not so expensive, but we learned to make do in many ways and it made us stronger. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, as the saying goes. I’d prefer not to go back to some of the difficulties of those times, but I still know how to if need be. Of course 72 year old bones prefer 68 degree interior temperatures to whatever the outside temps are.😀

I agree that we have all been through good times and hard times, and we definitely learn from both. I appreciate how you share the importance of always watching for the bargains to help you build your pantry. Just yesterday I had driven my Amish friends to our local Walmart to get some groceries and I found a small stand in the middle of the back aisle with jars of Smuckers strawberry preserves 18 ounce for $1.00 each. Last summer these were on sale for $2.49 a jar. I bought 24 jars which will last us (my husband and I) at least a year. Every little bit helps. Keep up the good work, you are helping others every day.

Something we started doing last year was to stop giving our donations to the big charities and non-profits. (Admin costs gobble up much of this money for fancy executive lifestyles and perks) We redirected our donations to real and familiar faces. Our money now goes to a person (s) who has gone over and above in the service of others like care givers etc. and is really trying to help themselves. It’s time we all wake up to the realities of how best to use the precious resources we all have and help others who REALLY need it and put funds to good use.

At Homestead Tessie, I have a second channel I’m a prepper as well! And I’m damn proud to be a hoarder because that prep situation that I built has lasted me eight months and I’ve got at least another four or even six months that I could eat out of my preps that doesn’t even touch my long-term 5 gallon food buckets that we won’t even going to the amount that I have there! Building our preparation overtime Through sweat and frustration, and everything else that we do, and being called hoarders, and all the other things, when it comes out in the end, were the ones on top, were the ones prepped and prepared for the shit hits to hit the fan, or for anything to go down, but we’re also the ones that are prepared and ready to hand off food to those in need! I think you’ve done amazing the channel that I am replying to you from is now my budgeting channel, so I have two channels, I put together an envelope this year and it’s going to be my Tessie envelope and I’m going to budget and make sure that when winter comes around in 2023 you’re gonna have enough kerosene, but she won’t be using your Amazon points because I’ll make sure of it myself! This is what us as preppers do we come to the need of others when it’s needed whether it’s our next-door neighbor or someone across the United States we do what we need to do when we need to do it because we’re prepped and ready to go We have the means to do so! 18:57

I live in Arizona and our street are filled with so many homeless people. It's very scary because most of us live day to day and struggle to survive but honestly I do believe that God answers are prayers and knows what we need and when and always seems to make sure we find a way. I've learned a lot from you on being frugal I'm alone and on disability so funds are limited but I have what I need and am grateful so grateful to have a roof over my head and a bed to sleep in. I e started trying to grow potted vegetables and herbs to save money. I'm not very good at it but I enjoy it and I learn as I go etc. I don't use my gas heater I have a small ceramic heater that helps on cold nights this time of year it goes down to 36 degrees but the little heater works for me and saves money

Tessie, you’re doing a great job. You are rich and blessed beyond words. It’s okay to want things that you don’t need from time to time, that’s normal. I lived in mobile homes and apartments my entire 40 years of marriage. My current home is a modular home. Helpful tip we learned in 1988 when fixing up our 1967 mobile home and this current 1998 modular has the exact same problem around its windows. If you pull off the wood or metal trim on the outside edge of your window on the inside wall you will find a 1 to 2 inch empty space. Buy some expandable foam spray for around doors and Windows and fill it in. It won’t break your windows or it’s seal. Another thing we did was remove the wall plug and light switch covers and placed the fitted insulated foam piece specifically for cutting down the draft on outside walls with electrical outlets. Hope these tips from personal experience helps. It stopped the drafts and our little 12x50 mobile home was cheaper and easier to heat. Hugs to you and your family. ❤️😊🙏🏼
