In Part 4 of the SketchUp Series, I build on what was discussed in the previous tutorials and start constructing the joints within the table. Specifically the mortice and tenons and dovetails.

WHAT IS THE FREE ONLINE WOODWORKING SCHOOL?
When designing the online course, Matt wanted to make it as close as possible to his own experience learning at Rycotewood Furniture Centre in Oxford. Primarily, by providing a structured course that anyone can follow, without having to find their own way through an arbitrary list of videos on RU-vid.

You can actually use components for left/right mirror flipped components but scale one -1 in one axis direction using the scale tool. Then when you edit one leg the other would update but in mirror image.

Even simpler: In the right-click menu on a component, there's a Flip Along option to mirror along some axis, I think?

Got a question, Matt... The tenons that are "interlocking" when you remove the leg... I cant get my head around how they would fit inside the mortises? They would hit each other when inserted, surely? Apologies if I've missed something

Love the series so far. Do you have any material on how to design these elements? Like why are the dovetails and tenons these specific dimensions?

Solid tools from pro are awesome. Do they ungroup components when you use a trim operation, seemed to for me.

Didn't know about the Option + Push/Pull trick. Thanks!

Yeah that option/ctrl+edit tool is awesome. And it actually works with any "edit" tool : scale (meh), rotate (hey, what?)...and MOVE! This last one essentially turns your move tool into the equivalent of "copy with base point" from autocad!! Extremely useful, couldn't imagine working without it

Your videos are great, except that you're using the dumbed-down version of SketchUp. If you contacted them and showed them the great job you're doing educating prospective users, I gotta think they'd give you a license.

He has a licence, but “Joe public” won’t have, which is why he’s showing the tool that most users who are starting to learn this tool will have access to
