What type of ribbon did you use, and does the technique you used work with any type of ribbon or just the one you are using

I use satin ribbon, and yes this technique should work with other types as well

I was wondering if you could burn the tips so much that it caught fire... I'm kind of a person who tries to avoid fire much as possible, and I've been considering making some of your designs.

If you burn it for too long it can catch fire, but if you are careful and have bolw with water close to you it have to be fine.
