if you wanted a more conelike crown you should have cut the line at an angle, very slight angle though. as for stiffening the brim could you possibly use the glue?

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, the glue would be a nice easy way to do it, now the hat is a bit older it has stiffened up a bit too surprisingly.
