Hi Andy, I have been watching most of your videos on bike restorations. Your videos are in very high quality and well informed content. And most importantly you have shared your honest experience through out the process of restoration. Actually, your tips were very much helpful to get my retro bike project across the finish line. Many thanks for all your advices. Following are some instagram photos of the end result. instagram.com/p/BooUoP4A2Xd/?hl=en&taken-by=ruwan.t If you can give some feedback on what you think. That will be very much appreciated. Wish you all the best and keep those videos coming ..... Regards, Ruwan.

As a photographer and cyclist, soft light is actually far preferable to harsh sunshine. Shows detail with much greater clarity and without risk of blown highlights.

Hello there Andy. I just wish that the world had more lovely, honest blokes like yourself. Although you're in the bike business, you are generous enough to share your knowledge and advice - and even go as far as sharing your commercial techniques. You're great ! I just wonder how I can get in touch with you (?). I live in Paris, France. Anyway, all the best from me, Ralph.

Great Video! Since i have subscribed months ago, i sold three vintage bikes (Team Panasonic, Raleig TT, Bianichi Golden Race 200) after restoring them and made decent money so that i could afford a newer italian road bike from 2013 with carbon front for nice Touring and another roadie for some racing. There are always really good bargains locyally and it´s fun to restore! So thank you for all the Videos, and your shared knowledge!

Good video and good simple advice on buying and selling an old bike. My tuppence worth if you are in this to make money then it all comes back to buying well and then not overinvesting in new parts having a good second hand spares to replace an old faulty bits and pieces. I did this a kid in the old print ad exchange and mart days or trading post here in Aus. Lately I did a few on eBay but mostly this is a mugs game to make money as old steel bikes last too long and thousands survive so supply is plentiful and demand is low unless you happen upon something someone really wants badly for emotional reasons

Hi Andy, just bought a Holdsworth Professional as a first vintage bike project. Currently looking for the place to buy some cheap components to give it a bit of an upgrade? e.g. some vintage style bartape, a vintage style saddle and some good looking tyres? Not worried about performance just want to it to look good! any suggestions of places to look/suppliers? Based in the UK. thanks

@BikeItUK
@BikeItUK 7 лет назад
+elliottmlev Hi thanks for the comment, I live on eBay scrolling through generally. You tend to spend more on bikes and parts that have been stripped down though. Can work out cheaper buying a complete bike stripping it down and selling the unused frame etc on. Hope this helps Andy

Just getting into this having converted my dads 90's raleigh mtb into a single speed, and currently restoring a 86 equipe. Seems a very important aspect of making £ is not making too much work for yourself. I've been completely stripping, overhauling everything, ordering new tyre / inner tape saddle etc...lessons learned. But i also see bikes where you do a full job of sandblasting, respray, getting new groupsets in etc, are these still profitable or just enjoyment value?
@BikeItUK
@BikeItUK 4 года назад
You’ve got it more for the enjoyment value, some bikes especially if they are personal to you, childhood memories are worth the extra effort. Try and keep the bikes original as possible, people search high and low for the original parts to put back on. All the best good luck with things 👍
@MrMoppeh
@MrMoppeh 4 года назад

Extremely helpful, thank you very much. I've been only doing this in my local classifieds. Just out of curiosity, can you make a living doing this full time through Ebay? What kind of figures do you pull in from this alone.
@BikeItUK
@BikeItUK 7 лет назад
+Gavin Z thanks for watching and the comment! People can make a living from this but to be honest with you what you find is that the bikes are generally stripped and just sold on separately. Which I feel is criminal because piecing the bike together originally again can almost be impossible. What I do here is a little more than eBay, the RU-vid channel helps and I'm just about to launch a website also. It's all hard work I've not found and easy way yet, but this is something I enjoy doing so that's half the battle I feel. Thanks again Andy

Thanks for another great video! I want to get my first road bike, and want to chose between two Vintage bikes, Peugeot CAD 1988 and Koga Miyata Fullpro 1981, they are almost at the same situation and price. Profitability is not the case at the moment, but definitely I will change it in the future, which one would you advise me to go for? Thanks!
@BikeItUK
@BikeItUK 7 лет назад
+iman zaman Hi thanks for tuning in, i would say it all depends and ask yourself why you are restoring the bikes. Reason being I have bikes that I will not sell. All I would say the more original the bike the more of a chance of making a profit. So it all depends on do these bikes mean anything personally to you? If not then which one is the easiest and cheapest to turn around. Hope this helps Andy

@BikeItUK
@BikeItUK 6 лет назад
Hi and thank you for watching and tuning in. Peak price, the Colnago build I spent £650 on just the frame and another £250 on the brake callipers. It all depends on the value of the bike or the personal value. Do your research find the market value unless you are chasing your childhood bike. If the latter is the case then obtaining that bicycle and the joy and memories it can bring is priceless 👍🚲 all the very best Andy

Smart move... don't immediately try to follow the last build, which was just, un-followable, with a new build, but rather an informative video, that does feature a classic bike, but in a subdued manner, as to not overtly try and challenge what was the hallmark build on the channel thus far.

@BikeItUK

+lastinline bruce I was £3 short after fees, however I was fortunate to have items already to hand in the Garage such as pedals and the used gum wall Tyre. The video was to demonstrate it could be done. However as I have mentioned before in the past you have to ask yourself the reasons for restoring these bikes. If it is for yourself then the cost and the time spent out ways the value a lot of the time. I would also say that certain models of bike are more sort after. I hope this helps and answers you query.
