Making nettle beer at the moment. Started age 16 in 1981, mums womens institute book recipes. Best made in the spring when nettles are young. A light refreshing drink
I made this a couple of years ago to this recipe, just about to make another batch to boost my lockdown supplies, but also cos it works! Nice and simple, thank you my friend🤗🍺
Hi ,I'm a big fan of this video I used it to make my first brew ,there was a delay for me getting the swing top bottles so it brewed for two weeks longer,I than bottled it and added a bit more sugar than you did, left it for a few days like you and when it came to open it shot out the bottle like champagne and continued to bubble violently afterwards,I put it in a champagne glass and it behaved exactly like champagne, thank you so much for your video,I can't wait for my next batch p.s I love river cottage as well also please make another video.
Great video. As a variation use an ale yeast which will leave a little residual sweetness. Nettle beer will brew out completely dry with a wine yeast, finished .990 or less, with an ale yeast it finishes around 1.000. For any homebrewers that have swapped out the yeast in their beer kits for something better then the silver packets you've piled up are great for doing a nettle beer. They're Fermentis S-33 if you were wondering, you know, the ones that come with John Bull, Geordie, Wherry, etc. Man, I'm already out of this year's supply. I've got loads of booze but really want more nettle beer after watching the end of this. Good effort on the vid.
I literally just got the bargain of the century in buying a lot of brewing stuff, got it so cheap, gonna be my first brew this and funny because he sold it me with the exact yeast, citric acid and sterilising agent
Good video, but two things: 1. You shouldn't ever use the warm tap for recipes. Go up into your loft and see all the scum built up into your tank and you'll understand why. Much better to warm a little water up in the kettle and add extra cold (which is from the mains). 2. You can still make suction if you put your fingers over the end of the siphon and you only need to suck until the liquid is half way down the tube. This way there's less chance of undoing all your hard work you did sterilizing.
