to 1,000 mL of D5W, or NS contain dextrose because Dextrose reduces loss of potency due to oxidation. Administration in saline solution alone is not recommended. The diluted LEVOPHED solution for up to 24 hours at room temperature [20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F)] and protect from light.

Hi Christina :) Tina :) so my question is with vasopressors in 250mL bolus; it becomes standard to inject 2 vials of levophed and it comes out to 0.032 mcg per mL when we divide 8mL/250mL with a ratio of 1:1 because it is 4mg/4mL ? How long does it take to increase that M.A.P. usually 10mmHg :) ? Have a wonderful day....

Hi. Tina is my nick name feels more natural 😊. Levophed will work rapidly as you should make progress within 5 min of titration.

Yes you can but always check with your pharmacist. I prefer NS. Dextrose containing products are contraindicated for your patients getting a PET scan so at that time it would have to be changed. Hope this helps. Thank you so much for watching!! 🤍

the D5 slows down oxidation by acting as a reducing agent. Basically it lets its electrons be donated instead of whatever drug you're compounding preserving its structure and potency for longer. Doesn't make a difference short-term
