• || HOW DURABLE ARE THE...
This video we will learn how to reuse and recycle waste paper and create papercrete pots.
As we tend to have lot of waste paper and boxes post purchasing succulents and rather than just throwing them away we can recycle them ,turn them into paper pulp add cement and perlite and create paper.
Ingredients -
Waste paper any kind or old cardboard boxes ( 3 parts paper pulp )
2 parts - Cement
1 part - perlite
So let’s recycle the old unused paper.

I really really love this! I am definitely going to try this. even though here in the United States terracotta pots are not that expensive but when you have a lot of succulents it does get expensive over time. and it's so funny I was just thinking this morning I have to pick up probably another 15 to 20 terracotta pots and at three to four dollars a piece it's expensive! once our warm weather gets here I am definitely going to try this method,,❤️

Wonderful !! Yes now you can use that money to buy more succulents .....and with more succulents there will be tons of toilet paper which can be now put to good use 😄 I never buy pots either I make my own concrete pots or I recycle and save money to get more succulents ☺️

Hey Frank, I finally made a few papercrete pots yesterday. They are left to cure under a plastic sheet. Can’t wait to see how they turn out. I have a question though.. after curing for 7 days, do I have to mist them when I place them for further curing in sunlight?

To save time , tear paper into small pieces , soak them for 15 mins, use mixer blender to make a pulp, soak for another 15 mins

yes that will be best to blend for faster results but i don't use blender i let them soak ..tissue paper or toilet paper takes couple of hours ...newspaper 24 hours ..cardboard will take 2-3 days to get soft more the better but be careful it smells haha a little

I love this. I'd like to try it. I'm an artist and I have lots of acrylic paint just lying around, totally non-toxic. Terra Cotta pots are not easy to find where I live. This will make a nice substitute. Can you grow Orchids in them? Orchid care is very much like succulents. This will make such an inexpensive and creative way to make your own pots!
@LushGardener
@LushGardener 3 года назад
Probably you can make a different type of pot of paper Crete for orchids maybe with larger holes ….haven’t grow orchids but Seen people growing them in different style of pots ….yes terracotta is very difficult to find …..hope this works ….just add more cement to make it more strong ….it’s been almost a year and half the papercrete pots are still doing well …I was worried that they might decompose soon but all are strong so far with paint and without both ….you must try 😊

Hello! Thanks for mentioning the little detail about curing it. I always used to keep it in direct sunlight. That problem is solved now. Although, are these pots waterproof? Can we keep it outside in rain as well? If not, what can I do to make it waterproof?
@LushGardener
@LushGardener 3 года назад
yes initially never keep in direct sunlight we usually think it should get dried quickly but quick dried pots will crack very soon so the curing process has to be slow it’s always good to spray water on them to even more reduce the curing process ….just add more cement and yes my papercrete pots are all out in the rain there don’t have any issue ….but it might get slightly very slight soft so don’t pick it up immediately but as time passes by they will get more stronger ….my few pots have been around for almost 1 and half year still going strong be it summer monsoon winter season ….but just increase the ratio of cement ( paper pulp : cement ) make it ( 2:3 )

It’s better to use it the same day especially if you have already mixed cement ….but without cement mixture only paper pulp you can keep the pulp around for couple of weeks…. But drain out or squeeze all the excess water out …. @LushGardener

You can use some sand instead there has to be some aggregate otherwise it won’t be strong … There something called as hypertufa which is made from cocopeat and cement even in that you need perlite … If you unable to find perlite sand can be used …but the pot will weigh more … Perlite is added to make the papercrete pot lighter …but you can definitely use sand if you’re ok with a little weight ☺️

I wonder how graphene would make this strong
@LushGardener
@LushGardener Год назад
i haven't worked with Graphene but considering how tough that material is... the pot will be rock solid lol but not sure if it will come off the mould easily

Is the papercrete pot recyclable?
@LushGardener
@LushGardener Год назад
recyclable as in after it breaks you mean ? ...it will be difficult for it to become into pulp again in water as it will get hard ....but if it breaks you can use it in the base of other pots like how we use broken clay or concrete pots ...but we cant put it in water make a pulp and use it again .... but lets say while making it or while curing if it breaks and its still soft yes you can mix it in water and make it fresh pulp again :) and can re moulded again

What a sense to make pots of papercreate, if it is destroyed by water? Probably the better thing would be to find any other material
@LushGardener
@LushGardener 3 года назад
Destroyed by water as in ? Infact people have been using them and are intact they been around for a long time out in the rain …they haven’t been destroyed 👍🏼….at the end of the day it’s your choice you can use any material not Necessary only paper it’s just an idea to recycle waste paper.
