This was so helpful. I had already looked and the color wheel selector and had been using it to learn more about colors but I never knew what the little circles were for. Now I see that you lay them onto the page to visualize how the colors would look on the page - very cool!

I had an idea for the exacto knife - before you cut anything, you could stab (couldn’t think of another word that was as descriptive as I wanted 😄) some holes/dashes to make it very perforated beforehand. Then maybe you could start in one of the perforations with some tiny curvy scissors ✂️ that I think are nail scissors or something. That just came to me, so it may or may not be of any use to anyone - I just thought I may as well mention that. Hope you guys are all doing well and staying safe over there. Hi 👋 from Australia 🇦🇺 😃💖

I printed out the Tri-color pages. The margin on the bottom is too small so that it cuts off the bottom of the page. I am so happy that you are giving us these wonderful tools. Thank you.

Thanks. I am a bit, well more than a bit, but not totally red-green colourblind, so this is quite helpful for me. One thing I will say is that the prismacolor premier at least pencils look completely different under daylight and much better than compact fluorescent lights. It's like night and day. So when I'm drawing or making swatches I really try to do it under daylight on my porch. I'm working with enough of a handicap as is. I would like to get some tungsten globes, but they are banned now here lolz. LED's might be a bit better but maybe not. I need something with a continuous spectrum, because although many things make a nice looking light with narrow bands of the right light in the right proportions, things won't look the same under them, because many pigments and natural things themselves reflect in fairly narrow bands of light frequencies, and if they bands don't match up, well, they'll just appear black or grey, won't they? Anyone got an suggestions cause it would be nice to actually have the pencils look their proper colour more or less. Eg. canary yellow looks completely orange at both the art shop and under the lights in my house. But on paper under daylight on my porch or in direct sunlight it looks as it should, canary yellow, i.e. a yellow perhaps with a touch of orange. No "daylight" CFLs won't work, they have the same more or less narrow peaks of colour in their spectrum, as a "warm white", just they bias it more to the blue and less to the red.

I imagine a good solution would be to use a space in front of a well lit window when working with color. I realize this may not be possible depending on your living situation and wont help unless the sun is up. However, even something as simple as a cushion and a lap desk can make using a window space temporarily possible. Imagine how the masters of old would have worked. I find your color blind situation fascinating. You naturally see the world differently from most people. I have a friend who is strongly red-green colorblind and is an artist, he prefers black and white or contrast rather when he works with color. His art doesnt always appeal to me, that makes sense though since I dont see things the way he does.

I still don't have a printer yet but once I do I plan on signing up. I absolutely love your videos. I would like to ask you something about your Gamsol. About 18 months ago I saw a video (not yours unfortunately), that mentioned there was no need to buy really expensive Gamsol, just go to Walmart or home improvement store and get the odorless mineral spirits in a much bigger plastic container ( green label). So I checked out the advice and compared prices. The Gamsol was like 15.00 for a 4oz glass bottle at Michaels in the artists paint section. What I bought at Walmart says odorless mineral spirits in a quart jug for 5.99. My question to you is this now. You keep calling your Gamsol an odorless mineral spirit but yours is clear. The stuff I have is the color and consistency of 2% milk. Am I trying to use the wrong thing??? Thank you for all your long hours and hard work, I know you love your work, but you must have the patience of a saint and always so pleasant as well. It was so nice to finally see the beautiful face behind the calm and serene voice earlier this evening. Thanks again for all you do. Theresa in Ohio

A have a question. If I wanted to use my primaries to be Cyan, Magenta, Yellow (CYM model). Red, Green and Blue (RGB) would become secondaries. Would your tools still work? James Gurney in his book Color and Light and his website he talks about rethinking the color wheel. He talks about combining the CMY and RGB models on a YRMBCG wheel, which could be very useful for those working on digital and traditional mediums. Because of that, I wanted to try it. Any thoughts on this?

Oh! The other thing I was going to ask was you know how with the KIN 24 pencils, you couldn’t get a couple of the tertiary colours exactly how you wanted, is it wrong to layer a mixture of two or maximum I think you’d want is three colours to get the exact shade you’re aiming for? And I know it’s not the same as being able to just say bam here are all the individual colours using these particular individual pencils, but I don’t know - what about if you did both options? Like say well this is the closest to the Blue-Green you’re going to get in this set, but if you want it a bit more exact or whatever - do layers using these two pencils, and which goes on top etc - as you know - huge difference sometimes about who gets top bunk 😃 Wouldn’t you think... that ALL brands of pencils would actually have the 12 colours - at the very least - of the standard colour wheel? Then they’d really only have to swing in a White, Black and maybe Grey although I guess you wouldn’t technically need a Grey if you had both the Black and the White. Although... I’m just thinking - and yes, whilst we’re at it, we can all churn our own butter and knit all of our sweaters too while we’re at it, so maybe not so much! And yeah, I know it’s like there’s no “right” or “wrong” in Art, but well... yes there is if you want to achieve a certain look. Although I don’t like to say that cos that’s always my self esteem backup - “there is no right and wrong in Art. I am not wrong”. It feels good to me to be always able to say that to myself, as my confidence is not all that high. So yeah, maybe not so much “wrong”, but unsuccessful in producing the results you wanted type of “wrong”. Maybe replace “wrong” with “option” (??) Anyway hope you guys are all staying safe over there. The particular town I’m in atm in Australia with my Mum is very low with transmissions and we both stay inside anyway so it isn’t actually all that much difference to us 😃 It’s good to hear your cheerful voice! 😃 💖 💖

Thanks so much for your time in doing this. I get stuck on red and green looking like Christmas. Of course there isn’t anything wrong with Christmas but I rarely use them together. I feel the same about red and pink being Valentine’s Day colors... any thoughts? I’m a premium member, under Kristine Connor.

It is very true that some color schemes are socially conditioned into us so that we think of certain holidays, seasons, even teams or countries. Sometimes all it takes is introducing an additional accent color that is unexpected. Sometimes the conditioning is so strong there is nothing to be done except pick a different color scheme.
@achild5864
@achild5864 6 лет назад
Also you don’t have to use the bright versions of those colors, desaturate them or make them a little lighter and it will look a lot better.
