Make Pine Cone Syrup with this easy Mugolio recipe! Pine cone syrup is a delicious and healthy syrup you can pour over pancakes, waffles, or ice cream for a unique and sweet flavor. This syrup is great for coughs and colds, and it's a great addition to your emergency medicine kit.
Here is how I make it:
2 Cups Green young Pine Cones
2-4 Cups of Organic Dark Brown Sugar
(Wear gloves if you don't want sappy hands.)
Dice up pine cones into 1/4 inch thick slices. Toss with the Brown Sugar and spoon into jar. (Fill completely and expect it to decrease in volume as it steeps). Set in a cool, dark place for at least 1 full month, or up to 1 year.
In the first week, let to lid be loose, or uncap the jar periodically to let the fermentation pressure escape. (Some people use an actual fermentation lid.) After this month has passed, empty all contents into a large saucepan and heat slowly over low heat. Stir and turn periodically until all remaining sugar granules are dissolved.
Pour into small (I use 4oz) jars that have been sterilized, screw lids on tight, and set upside down on a cloth until they return to room temperature. Store in a cool, dark cupboard or pantry until you give as gifts or devour. :) (Today I drizzled it over garlic seasoned pork loin. AMAZING!)
I want to list the kinds of trees I have collected that have been used to make delicious Pine Cone Syrup. However, please do your own research and make at your own risk. [It’s important to note that according to the National Library of Medicine, the Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa), Lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta), and common juniper (Juniperus communis) needles contain high levels of isocupressic acid that has been identified as the abortifacient in cattle and sheep. Because of this, I would use some caution with these pine cones. Also, Common Yew is poisonous.]
With that out of the way, these all have various (delicious) flavor nuances!
Mugo Pine (Pinus mugo)
Austrian or Black Pine (Pinus nigra)
Piñon Pine (Pinus edulis)
Scots pine, Pinus sylvestris
Ponderosa pine, Pinus ponderosa
Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea)
Siberian Pine
White Spruce
Blue spruce (Picea pungens)
Norway Spruce
Cedar (Thuja occidentalis)

Geeeeeeze, I'm 72 and grew up around pinecone and never heard of this. Never to old to learn! Thanks for this !!
@pat34lee
It looks like the cooking stage would be a good place to use a double boiler to protect from the direct heat of the stove.

Story time... my s/o is an injured Afghanistan vet and i use to drive semi. We made friends with the local amish, of all people lol!!! They've been a huge blessing to our family of 7 in both kindness, and wisdom. In just the same way, we've been able to bless them when they've needed it too. It's simple, in all things be kind, treat others as you want to be treated, and try to understand.

I have followed you for many years in Eastern Europe and now in America and I have learned many things from your videos. The greatest blessing I receive is your "Glow" for Jesus and your sharing God's word. God bless you always!

Ha! There always seems to be elements of your videos that pop out uniquely! My brother-in-law is Romanian and lives with me (and my sister and nephew), they are always bringing home Romanian delicacies, I'll have to ask him about the year long process! Many look forward to this Prepsteader knowledge, many look forward to the Christ-like kindness shown by you Christa, and many of us, myself included, especially look forward to both! God bless you!!!

I get so excited when you post. You're so peaceful, calming, and encouraging. I could listen to your wisdom all day. Thank you, and God bless you.

Just a word of caution: pine needle tea is not recommended for pregnant women because it can cause miscarriage. Might be a good idea to avoid any consumption of pine if pregnant, just to be safe. Thank you for the video! God bless!

I ask God every night to make me a blessing in someone's like the next day. Thanks for this recipe. It's August so will be a long time till pinecones, but I'm definitely going yo try for this. God bless🥰🥰

This is my second reply to this video this evening. In my first reply I mentioned that I’d need to wait till next spring to harvest cones. I decided to check tonight and to my surprise and delight the cones on my tree are perfect! I’ll be starting my batch in the morning. Again, thank you so much for all of the inspiration. Also, any suggestions that you have to remove the sap from my hands would be greatly appreciated. 😀❤️

No problem finding one person to ■ bless [o]ut; count'em.

A terrible storm knocked down a huge pine tree here in east Texas a couple of months ago. I had just learned about Mugolio and took the opportunity to harvest all the small green cones. My batch is setting up nicely! I'm about 6 weeks out. Thanks for the video clarification!
@alphastarcar
I’m back to update you on my Mugolio following your recipe...
@ElaM__Christ_is_Life
My family (in Romania) makes the syrup and sends it to us sometimes. We use it mostly for cough. But also mixed with some mineral water (or the soda stream) to make a yummy drink out of it.
@kpizzlemynizzle922
"Respectfully" You ARE the doppelganger of a young Raquel Welch!!! Striking!!!!! Thank you for this amazing recipe and information! I'm 62 and never heard of this!!! God Bless You and your loved ones!!!!
@IMOO1896
Finally a use for all our pine cones!
@cathywco
I am so glad and fortunate to have purchased some of your syrup in Columbia. It is delicious! Loved the little honey stick as well. Have a little left. Glad to be able to make it myself next year. Thank you for the recipe!
@truthseeker5833
Lovely! We do have a pine tree that we planted after our youngest left for college in 1999. Today, it's a huge tree, and I always wondered what to do with the cones! Mahalo, for sharing! Always a gift! 🙏🏼🕊🤙🏽🌺
@elizabethG633
I learned about flour mills from you many years ago, and I finally got one nine months ago. What a difference in my digestive health since I starting baking with fresh milled flour, and get the whole goodness of the grain.
@elijahsanders3547
This was surprising and amazing! God is so good. Wish I'd known about this years ago when I was surrounded by pine trees :) Thank you for sharing. And that Scripture was something I needed to be reminded of, thank You Jesus :)
@alphastarcar
That sounds delicious! Next spring when the cones are going I will make this. Thank you so much for all that you share. I love your channel and you as the hostess.
