Here you can see a quick overview of the process to use a CNC Needle cutter to create an RC aeroplane. This is a Mig-29 created using a PDF plan from RCPowers.
The maiden flight was a little scary until I got her dialled in.

Came across needle cutters a few days ago. Seem great way to cut foam. Might need something bigger than a 3018.

Yes, mine is 500x750mm which is OK but an MPCNC Lowrider would be ideal.

Awesome video! I see a lot of people cutting styrene. Can it cut polyethylene? It looks like the foam in your video might be.

The foam I used is called Depron which an extruded polystyrene available most commonly in 6mm sheets. I haven't used polyethylene but I think it would be to strong and the needle wouldn't last very long. But I could be wrong. Keith

hello Keith, I've been following all your posts for a while and I've seen this one before,but at the moment I'm also working on a needle cutter I'm curious about your set up, especially how you balanced the flywheel of the cutter I can't manage this properly, keeps on vibrating and the speed does not increase properly as it does without a flywheel As always a great educational video! gr, Henk

Hi Henk, I used my prop balancer to get it balanced. Still vibrates a little but seems OK.

Thanks for the informative and entertaining video. Do you get much 'depron dust' from the Needle cutter, and if so, what steps are needed to extract/clean it? Do you think such 'dust' would present much of a health hazard? I suppose it's cleaner and healthier than any smoke/fumes given off when laser cutting depron?

Hi, there is no dust that I can detect from the depron. The needle is sharpened to a point and it just pierces the foam. So very little health hazard.
