HOW TO MAKE REFRIED BEANS EXTRA CREAMY AND DELICIOUS: Simple Down Home Recipe

This is one of the most requested recipes I get, and to be honest, it's not much of a recipe so much as it is down home cooking. That said, I suppose there are a couple of tips for making Refried Beans extra creamy and delicious. So, I decided to break it all down as simply as possible in this video. I won't bother to write measurements, like I normally do. But here are a few answers to questions you may have:
When I cook beans in the crockpot, I cook them on Low for six hours. That's just how I do it. They can also be cooked on High if you want them done sooner.
If you cook beans on the stovetop, let them come to a boil, reduce the heat to Low and let them simmer gently for about 2 hours. Just keep an eye on them to make sure the water doesn't evaporate while they're cooking. You may need to add a little or the beans will burn. 2 hours is about the average length of time beans will take to cook, but it will depend on how many beans you're cooking and if you pre-soaked your beans. Use a fork to press down on them, and if they're tender enough to smash easily, they're done.
I find that beans keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. If you don't think you'll be using them by then, you can absolutely freeze them. In fact, I sometimes cook large batches of beans just so that I can freeze them in small containers and pull them out when I need them. They keep in the freezer for about six months.
If you have questions, feel free to leave them in the comments.
Thanks so much for watching. Be sure to give this video a Thumbs Up and Subscribe, if you haven't already done so. I also invite you to follow me on Instagram at / marcyinspired or on Facebook at / marcyinspired

When we used to soak beans overnight we always used to add about a teaspoon or so of baking soda. That would help release some of the gas in the seeds making them just a bit more "burp-less" when you make food later from them.

I have learned to make a simple pot and divide it into canning jars while hot still. I do add a small amount of sea salt to help preserve it. I allow them to cool on the counter. The jars will seal themselves this way. Once at room temperature, I store them in the refrigerator. They actually keep for weeks with this method. I am able to use smaller portions this way when needed.

@@sherrywilliams409 I make the roux with bacon drippings (you can use oil or lard also). If it’s a big pot of bens I’ll use 3 tablespoons of drippings and 3 tablespoons of flour. Always use the same amount of drippings/flour. Let it cook stirring it until almost gold color then pour the roux into the pot of beans. It will thicken them and make them creamy. @@marcyinspired1442 . Thanks. I use beans the regular way with overnight soaking if I think ahead. But I love to dehydrate them so I can ways just throw them in soup or a casserole or burrito at the last minute. (Well. It’s more then a minute cuz you have to rehydrate them if it isn’t soup! Lol.) Dehydrate slowly…..and long so they are completely dry. Then I just store them in any glass jar. They don’t need oxygen absorbers or anything special. It’s 10 am and someone wants beans and rice tonight…..got it! 😉Northern bean soup?….right on it! Cheaper and better then can. The getting beans dehydrated takes time….but not work. Soak one-two nights, cook during the day, dehydrate that night, put in a jar. I make a few jars of different beans a couple times a year or whenever they start to get low. Give it a try! Thanks for all your videos. I’m doing your enchiladas next!

Grew up on beans. Granny would cook a huge pot of beans every Saturday for the next week. Refried leftovers were the best.

I used to hate how gassy beans made me. Now, I SOAK them for 24 HOURS, changing the water and rinsing well about four times, about every six hours. Then, I rinse well, place them in FRESH water and cook til done without salt. ABSOLUTELY NO FLATULANCE. GUARANTEED.

If you need to speed it up your first soak can be boiling water poured over the beans. Cover and let them cool to room temp. Drain, rinse, and repeat.
