I know how expensive goose is this time of year, but it’s the proper poultry dish according to the philosophy of Charles Dickens. Having turkey 🦃 at Thanksgiving is understandable, but Christmas is time of the year to serve goose.
my Mother's side of my Family was from England and we had Goose every Christmas, it was incredible and that aroma was to die for. the whole house was Heaven to enter from outside. I must have eaten at least 50 of these great fowl. 4 years ago I bought one from Loblaws for about $70. and I have never been more disappointed in my life, not only was there absolutely no aroma but flavourless as well. it had to be the Producer as this never happened before. please tell me where you bought yours and I'll try again
Which is why I live in a trailer park. I own the mobile home outright, a double-wide, and I only pay about $750 per month to live here. That's space rent, water, electric, gas, sewer, trash pickup, phone, and cable with Internet. I love it. -Dennis
Yes, I occasionall cook with the fat. I read somewhere that many people like to fry potatoes in goose fat. I've tried it and it is pretty good. I understand it keeps for a long time too. (I also have duck fat in the fridge). -Dennis
I love goose! I'm glad you didn't get into a lot of rigamorle to "defat" it, like I've seen in other goose recipes and videos. KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) is my motto. Do you cook with the rendered fat?
loved your recipe but I live in Canada and my goose had absolutely no taste and cost me $85 when my mom did them they tasted like Heaven ...are they making flavourless geese these days?
Hi Norm. I haven't heard of this problem. But I understand. Geese are outrageously expensive. For the price, you'd expect great flavor. Maybe shop around and look for a different brand name. When I buy geese here (once very 2 to 3 years) they always taste good.-Dennis
