100% correct about the Old Fashioned! Only had a customer order an Old Fashioned twice in my 3 years of bartending. But each interview I'm asked how to make one.

Hi there bar girl, Not sure if you'll see this comment but I keep getting different opinions on how much a drink should have, or serving I mean. 1 oz is nearly unheard of where I am. All of the drinks I make have 1.5 oz and then .75 oz of the liqueur. As long as the proportions are right it's fine?
@RockstarBarGirl
@RockstarBarGirl 4 года назад
Absolutely Cheyenne, you've got it! If you google Apple Pie you will get thousands of recipes, all with differing proportions and even different ingredients. But in the end, each recipe will give you an apple pie.The same is true in building cocktails. Proportions will differ and sometimes even ingredients, but if the key principles and techniques are utilized, then you are making the same drink. The one ounce base is a choice made to make learning to free pour and calculate easier for new new bartenders, but always use the proportions and ingredients required by your bar. Thank you for a great question and for watching!

isn't an old fashioned made with bourbon? or is that just because I live in Kentucky? seriously asking
@RockstarBarGirl
@RockstarBarGirl 4 года назад
Hey Ben, thank you! That's a great question. It is most traditional for the old fashioned to be made with either bourbon or rye whiskey- which are both types of American whiskey. Though the type of whiskey used can be substituted for others. The Old Fashioned is one of the oldest cocktails out there and it has undergone a lot of changes over the years. When you have a chance, please check out my video "The Most Important Cocktail- The Old Fashioned." I made that video more recently and it covers the history and evolution of the cocktail and I think you'll really like it. Let me know what you think!

@@RockstarBarGirl I've only just started bartending recently, the bar I work at currently calls for buffalo trace. However, I've always enjoyed learning the history of drinks and how they came to be what they are today. so i'll defiantly check it out! also I do love your videos so far. very educational yet entertaining enough to keep paying attention:)

Buffalo Trace is a great option. Please do check it out and leave me a comment on that video when you do. I'd really love to hear your feedback on it. And I'm glad you are liking the other videos as well. Thank you for watching!!

I don’t understand . When you pour an once , it seems like your counting more than four
@RockstarBarGirl
@RockstarBarGirl 4 года назад
No, I'm using a 4 count. Remember that pace matters. And most important is to develop your own count. Like I said, many bartenders use a 4 count, but if that doesn't work for you, use another number. If you need tools to help you practice, check out the custom RockStar BarKit I created. It's available on my website therockstarbargirl.com Thanks for watching!

I like your channel, but your pours are 6 counts when you say 4. Which is 1.5oz instead of 1oz. It is a good thing for patrons though :)
