Wow, you could prepare fabric that way for so many craft ideas. I am totally going to do this for ribbon and other ideas. Thank you for sharing this. I have no idea how this video popped up, but I am glad it did. New Sub. ❤❤❤
Oh wow thank you for sharing your talent,i can't wait to do this yay I'm a new sub. And i am glad i stopped here. Your great and you really go to detail ty ty ty
Wow how awesome. Thank you...........someone asked about drying I would have a wire up to hang them on to dry. If glossed. I am so going to do this I can't afford 10 bucks for 10 beads that I want. yaaaaaaaa Thanks again.
Thanks for the video it was very informative. I do wish you would show us where you place the beads to dry them as promised at the beginning of the video. Just getting started and it would be helpful. ;)
I hang and dry them like I do all of my paper beads, on my bead drying rack. You can watch the video on how I glaze my beads at: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S_7pLvhyad8.html
It is a paper bead roller. I make and sell them. They are similar to a quilling tool but are easier to use since it has a slot down one side. You can find out more about them at my web site at: www.jpfun.com/paper-bead/tools
Hello. So excited about your process for making fabric beads. Do you coat the fabric and let it dry and coat again for a total of four times before you cut into strips? Thank you so much for this wonderful video.
would starching the cloth work. And why do you need to stiffen it up in the first place? many types of paper are used for making paper beads and many of them are quite flimsy, if not flimsier than a piece of cloth, depending on cloth of course.
If I were to make these beads and use them on a necklace, would it be safe to wear while raining? I know these beads are not water proof but would they be water resistant to small amounts of water?
Dot from the UK Could you use spray on starch on the fabric and iron it, would that work as well? Would be less messy for sure. Season's greetings, Dot
You would have to use a lot of starch to get the same effect but it would work. I would make sure the starch penetrates the fabric and completely dries before cutting it into strips. I have a tutorial on how I starch my fabric for quilting. I am sure this would work for bead making as well. www.jpfun.com/quilting-sewing/qayp/starching-fabrics
I sell the downloadable templates in my Etsy shop at: www.etsy.com/shop/jpfun Print them out on full sheet sticker paper. You can also just print them onto regular paper, use double stick 1/4" wide tape or glue to adhere the cut strips instead of printing them on full sheet label paper.
Since I make the paper bead rollers I used in this video, and I sell them, I just tried each roller and they all worked fine. So even the 5/64" roller works well with fabric.
Hi thanks for ur video i am new to beading. Wow thats a lot of faffing around to cut them to size having to print on sticky paper etc.... Anyway its great to see different texture materials u can use for beads. I am over the pond in London so can u tell me what u mean by freezer paper please? Also were did u get ur awesome zebra scissors & cutter from?
Freezer paper is paper that is non stick on one side and the other side can be written on with markers for identification. I can be used to wrap meats for storage in the freezer. I never use it for that however. I use it for crafts. You can iron the non stick side to fabric for making pieced quilts. I have also used it as a non stick surface for making these fabric beads by laying the fabric on the non stick side so the finished, dried fabric sheet does not stick to it. The non stick side is slippery like waxed paper. The zebra scissors are made by Fiskars and I bought it from Amazon.com. The zebra rotary cutter I bought from my local Wal-Mart. Not sure of the brand. I bought it because it was zebra print! I wanted consistent strips, that is why I used the sticky paper universal marking templates that I make. I didn't want to use a ruler and mess up the measurements. That is why I offer the Universal Marking templates.
Hi girl!! How are you?? Remember me? Lol I'm back! The passion is calling me back lol. It's been a while since I've been in this or any craft world. It's so nice to see you and your channel doing so great! Thanks for sharing! You're always so helpful. I'm going to try.
You could but the object here is to stiffen the fabric enough so you can cut and roll it with clean edges and no fraying of the fabric fibers. You can use any of the fabric stiffeners that are out there. I have used several in the past for various sewing and fabric craft projects I have done.
Yes they can be made into a necklace. They are water resistant but not waterproof. If you soak them, you take a risk of them un rolling. They are made of fabric so it won't fall apart like paper would. The only way to make them water proof is to coat them with 1 or two coats of a 2 part epoxy resin. I will have to make a video on how I do it. I dip them into epoxy resin while the beads are on a wax covered toothpick or some other stick that is almost the same thickness as the hole in the bead. I make my wax with bees wax and mineral oil and dip the toothpick into it before adding the bead. The bead should also be already coated with at least one coat of a thin glaze before applying the epoxy resin.

I Look Forward To Your Reply ASAP. Tafs.
These look great! I have lots of extra fabric I need to use up. Can I just use the ruler and cut them out at an angle like that, instead of whatever you did with those strips of sticker paper?
It is a Omnigrid Ruler Grip Double Suction cup. I bought it at amazon.com at: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PA2852 I no longer use it because I made myself a weight that holds the ruler down while I cut. That way, I don't have to apply as much pressure and make my arm or shoulder sore over time. The weight that I made is just over 3 pounds and is made with wood and large heavy washers bolted to it with a metal handle in the middle. I have a page on my web site that shows a picture of it at: www.paperbeadcrafts.com/howto/cutsheets.shtml
I bought it from Amazon.com. You can do a search for mirror handle, contractors use them to carefully remove mirrors from walls by adding a "handle" to the glass.
I generally let the fabric dry overnight. That is why I use a drying mat. I can just put the drying mat on my metal drying rack and prepare more while the other sheets are drying.
Way way too much work. I can make fabric beads in under 1 min. Use a dowel or pencil. Cut fabric and then glue the end. Bam done. No need to stiffen the fabric. Once rolled it is stiff. Also you can instead of glue wrap wire around it to make more Designs or use wire and add seed beads to make more designs as well.
Freezer comes on a roll, made by Reynold's and can be found on Amazon.com. The paper is glossy on one side and normal on the other. You can iron the glossy side to fabric making it great for all sorts of projects. I use it in applique projects among other types of crafts.
Hi Julie, thanks for a great tutorial! I was just wondering whether you had any experience of how these beads behave if they are washed..... (I know! there always needs to be one with an odd question :-) ) I'm only asking because I was thinking of using fabric beads to decorate children garments I am currently knitting for my niece's baby?
These beads are meant to for jewelry and not for children. They should not be allowed to get washed with clothing. They are not water proof but only water resistant. I would think they would un-roll if gotten soaked.
Yes you can. You just want to make sure the threads of the fabric get saturated. You could also wear vinyl or latex gloves if you don't want to get the glue on your hands.
Ciao dal Italia! Grazie x il tutorial! Please.... Cosa è quello strumento che sembra la cornetta del telefono?! Come si chiama?! A cosa serve?! Dove lo posso comprare?! Thank you!
Whatever you do, do not click on the free template that is on her website. It has access to everything on your computer and it won't let you uninstall it. It's really frustrating and misleading when people allow such advertising on their website just to make a buck.
There is nothing wrong with the free template. It is just a downloadable file that does not link to anything and will not access anything on your computer. If you have problems with files downloaded from my site, I would like to know exactly which file is the problem so I can either fix it by uploading a new copy or figure out what else is going on. I have been offering free downloadable files for over 10 years and have never ever heard of anyone having troubles like this.
Amazing the amount of “stuff” you need to make a bead, using the “stick on” metric paper takes even longer than using a regular ruler which is what I use. I use toothpick or knitting needle, a $2.50 rotating cutter or scissors. The key for me is to spend as little as possible and recycle as much as possible.all I spend money on is glue and spray fixative. For me it’s just a hobby, I don’t sell my beads, I leave that to the women of Africa who struggle to earn an income by precisely selling paper beads to foreigners.
