Did you ever heard of rose jam?
It is a great way to enjoy the fragrance and aroma of roses and keep it year long.
We usually eat rose jam on breakfast with kaymak (cream) on top of piece of fresh bread. But you can use as a topping for ice cream or other desserts or make a rose flavored yogurt and more.
I shared the recipe for kaymak in the previous episode and i am excited to share the rose jam recipe as you wish.
In this recipe i used lots of rose petals to have intense taste and density. But normally it is more lighter and has few rose petals in jams. It is up to you to decide how you want to have.
You can even double the sugar and water and have more jam. It will have a similar rose fragrance taste too.
To Make The Rose Starter:
250gr. rose petals (The kind we use has pale pink color, full of fragrance and has many petal layers, watch the video )
1/4 tsp citric acid
1/4 cip sugar
For the jam:
Half of the rose starter
750gr. sugar
400ml. water
1/2 tsp citric acid
With this amount of rose starter (125gr) you can double the sugar, water and citric acid and have more jam.

In India it’s basically roses and sugar. To a westerner it does sound a bit crazy but it’s amazing. It’s used also to draw heat out of the body in Ayurvedic therapies and is thought to sometimes relieve pain. It smells divine n the taste is as beautiful as the smell. In eastern cultures, we use rose a lot. In South Asia alone, rose goes into so many drinks and deserts.

Yeah but when it goes down the drain it goes back into the system to be treated and reused. Throw it in your flower pot and maybe 25% of that gets evaporated and rains into the ocean. It’s not environmentally wasteful to let water go down the drain, it’s only financially wasteful.

@kaganhudayar5937

I once summered in Turkey as a kid. At lunchtime, I would run to the bakery for a fresh baked loaf, still hot from the stone oven. My grandmother would spread fresh sweet butter on the sour dough bread and top it with this jam. The sour bread, creamy butter, and sweet roses all conspired to create something indescribable. Like a slice of heaven in my hands! It's one of the happiest memories of my life.
@paveleduard5565
@paveleduard5565 4 года назад
@@kaganhudayar5937 I love that you shared such a wonderful memory :). It reminds me a lot of my childhood, I used to be very poor back then. One of the best ways my grandma used to keep food over the winters was by making jams out of every fruit she would find. Me and my little siblings would go bonkers over it. We would put bread on an iron sheet and keep it on the fireplace until the bread was toasted, then spread some of the jam. For me, as a child, that meant the world. It's the little things that make us happy.

I wish we had this in the UK! This sounds incredible, I'd love to have this as a jam filling for sponge cake 😊 for a summery afternoon tea or something!

There is a store in London that sells those jams I just lost the store's name but if you Google you are able to find.

You can surely find Indian rose petal jam in the UK, which is called "gulkand" and is much healthier because the petals are "sun-cooked" not boiled. But they are too expensive.

Türkish shops sell it but too sweet for me. I'd rather make my own😂

This looks just lovely! Rose is not such a popular flavor here in the US so I never have nice flowers to cook with or recipes to use them in :( thank you very much for the beautiful video and recipe! 💕

I remember that as a kid I often ate donuts with rose jam, but it's a lot different. There are a lot of roses in my neighborhood, maybe I'll give it a try

At first it tastes like you are eating a rose & is unique flavor. It took me a few times to begin to enjoy it as its acquired taste. Today I love it.. especially with a spoonful on vanilla ice cream.
