Hello my friends! Please help this channel develop with likes, comments and subscriptions! P.S. Your good friend and author of the Skill Invent DIY channel
I watch vise restorations all the time, have restored a few myself, you are meticulous and very good, ( beautiful work ) but this time I have to say I would have just bought another one before all that work 😊
Well worth a subscription. That was very well done. Very clean and methodical work. Glad I came across your channel. If I may ask, what wire was wrapped around your electrode when you were welding the vice body? What was it’s purpose? I’ve never seen that before. 👍🇦🇺
Welcome aboard!))) Hello! A copper wire was wound around the electrode. The body of the vise is cast from cast iron. During and after welding, the welding seam is brittle and can crack from the concentration of stress. Copper wire allows you to make the welding seam softer and eliminates the problem with cracks. It is advisable to take a copper wire no thicker than 1 millimeter. I took a thicker one, I just didn't have another one at hand. It is necessary to wrap it tightly on the electrode coating.
