This is the simplest and clearest instructions i have seen on making sidebars, and simple set up too. Thanks this is really helpful 👍👋 from central Otago southern New Zealand 👋

Very well done mate. Keeping it simple is always the best route and you have totally achieved that. Now anyone with only one brain cell can do this. Thanks so much for this. Subbed and liked 😉

You are a true beekeeper when you are nondependent on no one!!!!! Great job!

Thanks a lot. When you can control all aspects of production your operation cost is much lower and makes you more competitive as a small farmer. That's my aim at this point

Hello Devon from Newfoundland/Labrador! I also make hives and would suggest a minor finger saving trick. Not from getting cut but from getting hand cramps.. If you put a 1/8 strip onto the fence between the routed bit and the stop you won't have to hold the piece as tightly at one end to keep it straight.. The strip should be the same as the amount the bit is removing,, ,, Great instructions and thanks. Awesome!!! Cheers!

Thanks a lot Mikey general. This will also be one of my side operations to earn money. I don't want to solely rely on honey to make money.

@@redzwashere love the mind set, I have most of those tools but it is mostly Bosch brand. Is it easy to get the tools you have in Jamaica for a good price?.
@redzwashere
@redzwashere 4 года назад
@@mikeygeneral3676 the prices are pretty high down here. All the tools you see in the video where bought un USA and shipped in barrels. But way in my opinion get tools and I mostly shop at flee markets

Awesome video Devon! Love the fact you have all the tools so that you can make the frames and other hive parts. I envision this being a major skill/service to have, just need to make some efficiency jigs so you could product these in quality and quantity.
@redzwashere
@redzwashere 4 года назад
That's a good idea. I have been watching a lot of other beekeepers and the jigs they have been using so I will be incorporating in my little operation

Thank you so much for posting this. I am just about to build my first frames, and wasn't keen on having to buy a dado set like most others are doing ... and now I won't, since your multi-cut process works so well. OK ... maybe I'm just delaying the purchase, but I am happy with that too.
@redzwashere
@redzwashere 3 года назад
Thank you for watching. I too delayed buying a dado set but you will find that you will need it in time for other parts of the hives. But to date I only use it for the top and bottom notches when building side bars.

Its easier to use an electric plane and set it at 3mm once on each side and jobs done and then use a sled to set up and slice up the side bars , a total of 3 operations

Love the video it always work out the cheapest way when your able to make your own equipment👍 is it a regular blade on the table saw?
@redzwashere
@redzwashere 4 года назад
No MI boss, it's cross cut blade. It's a bit thinner so I get more cuts and doesn't split the wood.

My friend, invest in a pushstick...I don't think they sell fingers at the hardware...pushstick is invaluable..work safe/work smart

use a push stick , you're going to lose a finger on your left hand reaching your finger behind the blade like that
