This video tutorial teaches you the step by step process of making DIY sock pumpmkins from old socks. From start to finish you will find it so thrilling to see how orindary old socks can be turned into beautiful fabric pumpkins for fall gifts and decor. I cover every step and make it easy for you to follow along.
Supplies List for Sock Pumpkins:
- Old or new socks- I prefer neutral colors
-Embroidery floss or dental floss
-Embroidery or doll needle
-Polyfil
-Rice
-Pumpkin stem or small twig
-Felt for leaves
-Rusty Springs or paper covered wire, twine
-Hot glue and glue sticks
Sock Pumkins are fabric pumpkins that are 4-6" in width and make perfect fall decor items or gifts for family and friends. They are SO ADORABLE when finished because who doesn't LOVE the warmth of FALL. These pumpkins are very high quality and can be used from year to year. Sock pumpkins are also a great way to use up and remember a loved ones old socks.
The process to make these sock pumkins is pretty straightforward, but if you are new to using a needle and thread I take you through each step:
There are the 7 steps to the adorable sock pumpkins:
Step 1: Cut your sock into a 7-8" tube shape.
Step 2: Turn your sock inside out and sew up one end (skip if using the toe portion of the sock).
Step 3: Cinch up the thread and tie it off. Turn right side out.
Step 4: Fill your pumkin with rice and polyfil.
Step 5: Close off the top portion of your pumpmkin with your thread.
Step 6: Take your embroidery thread and make 6 sections in your pumpkin.
Step 7: Embellish your pumpkin with a stem, leaves or curly cues.
These sock pumkins are super inexpensive and you can get up to 8 pumkins out of one pair of long boot socks.

I turned my granddaughter’s newborn hospital cap/beanie into a pumpkin a few years ago using the same method. I finished mine with a green ribbon tied around the top for a stem and leaves. Mimi’s little pumpkin 🎃🧡 An adorable keepsake!

It's quicker if you weave your needle in, out, in, out then pull. In, out, in, out pull. Very cute and great instruction.

I like this idea, used a bay leaf in each to keep bugs out, even in sand.
@AWellPurposedWoman
@AWellPurposedWoman Год назад
That’s an interesting idea. Does the bay leaf keep them away? Elizabeth
@kathya9522
@kathya9522 Год назад
@A Well Purposed Woman Yes, bay leaf is a natural pest control. My mother taught me to put a piece of the leaf on shelves of kitchen cabinets and pantry to keep out weevils.

Very cool! I love how you clearly explained, step by step and had No Crappy background music playing. So many people think that an instructional video is, somehow incomplete without it, and most is just annoying noise that you have to try to ignore! Thank you! 😃⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My first time seeing your channel this morning; very nice! I would want something in the bottom that could withstand hand washing (we have a dusty area here), maybe small pebbles or something. I can see this idea in a patchwork design...it would look SO cute!!

Use sand or something non-edible for the weight. I learned from experience that rice and beans attract bugs and rodents, no matter how well you store them.

Glad to see you using real stems.....I have my neighbors obsessed with giving me theirs at the end of the season whereby I tear off all fake plastic stems and use the real deal. It’s a game changer on faux pumpkins.
