I often play y’all’s videos in the background when I’m busy doing other things so that you get more views and I try to remember to like all your videos (all your channels and Joel’s). Absolutely definitely the tea has to brew in boiling water before milk is added - so in a MUG the milk is added after but in a teacup where the tea is brewed in a pot, then the milk is put in the cup first and the tea onto the milk.

I have an American father and Scottish mother. My mom told me that in the lean years after WWIi, my father’s family in Michigan sent care packages containing tea bags to my mom’s family in Scotland. Never seeing tea bags before, my mom’s family didn’t know why the Americans packaged their tea in such tiny packages as it so inconvenient to open each one to get the tea out!

I'm Southern as well [eastern North Carolina born and raised]. I've had both styles of tea 🍵 and I have to admit I prefer the flavor of a hot cup of strong English Breakfast tea [Twinings brand] with honey and freshly squeezed lemon juice over sweet southern iced tea. I also appreciate a nice strong cup of herbal tea. I have several favorite flavors...I also add fresh lemon juice and honey, sometimes I even add fresh ginger.

I'm an Aussie and we have so many British habits (obvs) including the love of tea - however my husband and I are still old school and make our tea in a teapot with loose leaf tea. You get a good strong cup every time. Saying that, I have just found Yorkshire Tea at our supermarket and I will make myself one occasionally. Love your singing at the end Lia - beautiful.

The funny thing is as and Aussie you are closer to the origin of tea than those in the U.K. the Chinese , Korean, and Japanese and others Asian countries have been drinking tea for 1000's of years before the British. I find it funny how so many people do not now the origins of foods. Like the Irish with the Potatoes, the Italians with tomotoes , everyone and chocolate , the beef taco in Mexico. If people would loik them up they might be amazed.

I was expecting to see sugar cubes. I've always stereotyped British to using sugar cubes. I've always pictured every British table to have a small plate with neatly stacked sugar cubes always in the center of the table and when company comes over for tea, they're all like "one lump or two love"😂😂😂

I have never been to a fancy "high tea" at a hotel, but a women's group I am part of has held two tea parties at our church and we volunteer once a year at a special tea party for a local women's shelter. I thought it would be silly, but it has been so much fun! People really enjoy it! Everyone dresses up a little and brings a variety of small cookies, fancy little appetizers, finger foods like delicate sandwiches (quartered and crustless) and all bring their teapots, favorite teas and teacups with saucers to share. We bring out table cloths and flowers; it's a simple event that needs no reason whatsoever, but it is really fun! I highly recommend it! I look forward to having another one once we can safely get back together.

The company I work for has a sales representative in the UK who visits us once every year at the sales meeting. He brought in some Yorkshire tea and was bragging about how much better it is than ordinary Lipton's tea. He left some for us, and I made some myself. The main thing I noticed was that the Yorkshire tea makes darker tea much faster. You don't have to steep it as long as the cheaper tea. But I don't think I can really taste any difference when they're steeped to the same color. Do you think you could? You should do a blindfolded taste test to see if you can identify the expensive tea vs the cheap tea. And I love Earl Grey tea. It's the favorite tea of Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the Starship Enterprise. Oh - and I had never thought about putting milk in tea until he prepared it that way. Putting milk in tea is unusual in the US at least in my experience. We put it in coffee, but not tea. And I must have some sugar in my tea.

Up til then, I had ONLY ever seen Americans leave the tea bags in their cups. now I remove my bags and strain them with a spoon and discard the bags in a napkin the way I saw the British Elderly woman do it. In my heart, I really feel it's the proper way to do things solely because its what she did

I lived in England when I was young and being invited to a neighbor's house for tea was one thing I missed when we moved back to the US. We had lovely neighbors on Hillside Crescent, Harrow in the mid sixties. Nowadays I'm an herbal healer and always have plenty of tea pots around. The anise, you said it correctly the first time, can be used to help promote sleep when a person has indigestion. Loved watching this episode of your show.

This was very informative, thank you! I grew up in a house where we only had an American version of builder's tea and a kettle that went on the stove top. I started drinking a lot more tea two years ago, and almost a year ago, another member of a group I"m in mentioned having cocoa tea. This sounded like heaven, found an online shop that sold various chocolate teas and have since fallen down the rabbit hole with this one tea shops offerings. I now have a proper electric tea kettle (I goofed and purchased a 1 liter, should have gone for the 1.7l) a tea strainer, and the majority of my tea tins are loose teas. I find the process of making tea very relaxing. The Greek-Cypriot tea variation is actually that shop's 'Holiday Tea'. While I love cinnamon tea, the clove didn't appeal. I bought a tin with 30 teabags, so I was going to suck it up and drink them. Happened on what sounds like an odd combination, but it elevates the cinnamon and clove so much: Orange juice! If you're willing to give it a try, use about the same amount of orange juice as you put oatly into your biscuit tea.

Great info! Ha! I have many tea towels but never thought to actually use it concerning tea. In all actuality I dint know there was such a thing as a tea towel until 5 years ago or so (thanks to my daughter LOL). Thanks Lia! Just adore you!

Lia, you have a picture of an American style kettle on your wall. Look at it. We put water in them and set them on the stove. They whistle when the water boils. Cheap ones cost less than 10 dollars. They work great. In case you didn't know, that picture in your kitchen of a round thing with a handle on top----that is a tea kettle in America.

My Irish immigrant grandparents (I'm Irish American) taught their children how to make a proper hot tea, and their children taught their children and so on. So glad to see we're still making it the right way all these years later. 😊 Great video!

My Armenian family also brews tea with cinnamon and cloves! I have a jar of loose tea at home pre mixed with cinnamon and cloves. We also make a very strong brew that can be diluted with hot water. That way everyone can make a cup to their liking. I love all kinds of tea. Lately, I've been drinking a lot of Armenian mountain herbal teas.

Tea purists (like me!) would add a few points: start with cold water, and warm the teapot first. My mother would say use a silver spoon, and milk first (although I don't use milk). All those little things add up to great tea! And, if you are out in the bush in Canada's north in the winter, tea made in a billy tin really works!

American's have tea towels, we just call them kitchen towels. I'm a bit of a tea snob myself, my prized tea paraphernalia is a Japanese cast iron teapot. but for years and years, I've wanted a proper bone china tea set. Maybe I'll get myself one for this birthday. I'm also totally going to look into getting some of that Yorkshire tea as well. Thank you for taking the time to make this.

I have been looking forward to this video so much! I will be referencing this multiple times, Thank you for sharing in detail what I’ve been trying to figure out for years. I do have an electric kettle and a stovetop kettle I use for tea. I just also picked up Yorkshire Tea. I also got Tetley’s British blend and regular blend. I was told to brew for 3 mins for best quality but I love the stronger tea. I did find it fascinating to learn to put the milk in after you let the tea brew then the sugar. I use monkfruit sweetener myself. I do have some fine bone China but I need a good teapot. Do most of the larger tea pots are they the “Brown Betty’s?” I agree there is nothing more fun then a dainty teacup. I also love that to squeeze is not preferable, as I don’t like to do it either. I am fascinated by the stainless steel having more bergamot flavor, amazing. I also love that tip at the end! Thank you so much! Is clotted cream like mock Devonshire cream?
