Thank You Coach! I've been playing pool for many years and after finding your video on a Google search tried this technique. Since watching the video, I am making an 8-ball on the break close to 25% of the time and even when I don't the 8-ball is moving to the side pocket and I'm getting a good spread on the balls. Again, Thank you for the tip!
July 30, 2020 1000am. I shoot pool for fun especially since we have been locked down for the last 6 months. I have been watching RU-vid videos and following directions. I can't believe that i just knocked in the 6,7 and 8 ball on my 1st try. Thanks...
He's right on and gives all info. I stumbled across this in the military by accident, noted what I was doing. I attempted to repeat it and hit it 3 of 5 times then proceeded to teach my buddy and he hit his 1st 2 attempts. Although mines always go in the opposite side pocket even though I break from the same side.
Place the Q ball close to the left next to the second diamond aim for the second ball Using low right English give it a hard solid shot . reverse if using the opposite rail !!
i have done what he says in video and i have made 8 ball on break but i also scratch sometimes if i hit cue ball in middle but if i go a little below it takes power out of my shot what am i doing wrong
QUESTION: Are you dropping into the shot with the inside-English already applied, OR do you first aim the shot with center ball, and then pivot over to the "5:30" tip position?
can you post a video showing where you aim on the ball from the shooters perspective rather than from down by the rack? I'm trying to imagine where exactly is "5:30" on the cue ball because on a clock there are 2 hands lol so is it where the BIG hand is? or the little hand? or are you splitting the difference between 6 o'clock dead bottom and the 5 o'clock and saying it's just right of the direct bottom english? So slightly bottom inside? I play on 7 footers in league but an 8 footer at home and I have the highest ratio of 8 on the break on a 7 ft. diamond table but I've been doing it from straight 6 o'clock and just at the head string 1 ball in. I'm going to practice it your way and see if my ratio improves from 1 per match to double that! I thought mine was working but I'm always open to a better variation to get even more 8 snaps. I agree that you don't need to smash it! I hit about 80% of the speed that I could. Works fine. Thanks coach (p.s. have you noticed a difference with a stinger break cue and using a normal tip (medium leather) to go for the 8? I seem to get a little more grab on the cue without my phenolic but it's about the same % of 8OB
Find what works for you. 5:30 is about a 1/4 tip low right draw on CB. I refer to CB hit always as facing a clock. 12 is above center on vertical plane, 6 is below center on vertical plane, 3 is right side of horizontal plane an 9 is left of center on same plane. There are many but usually in 1 hour referrances where to hit CB. Tips outside center causes more or less spin.
I did that once. I slammed the shit out of the cue ball. A great deal of getting this to work is hitting the cue ball with incredible force. A big part of the energy comes from having a strong core.
Hey coach, how often can this be done? I would think even at 20% of the time it would be quite valuable to someone who plays pool in tournaments or for money. I would love to learn this
steve clough there’s a few downsides. The average player needs to perfect the English because scratch is high. Also it breaks the rack pretty well and leaves next shooter a good chance to run on you. I’d practice extensively and see all the outcomes first. I played in an A league years ago and pulled it off a few times. But only on players I knew it was worth trying. Most of them spot your contact and know what you tried.
Coach, You talked about keeping the tip down. Are you recommending putting draw on the cue? If so, how much? I love the advice on positioning the cue and aiming for the near side edge of the center ball in the back row.
Coach is talking about follow through. Many players jerk the cue up after the cue ball is hit, which reduces accuracy and power. You aim low right (5:30), which does put draw on the ball.
1St time I was in my late late teens.I I think I was like 19? Or maybe 20? Recently I scored at a couple years ago. Didnt have money down whf and had whole bar going wtf did he just do that?!!! And I said Yeah I did ha! So now I'm 42 years old now .and twice in 20 years Unbelievable!
One time I was playing my dad and I was breaking and I looked at brother and shot the cue ball with out looking and the 8ball went in and I don't know where it hit the cue ball and I spent a few hours just trying to pot the cue ball on break
He was saying to hit the 9 ball dead square, but aim for the middle of where he has the 6 and 14 ball set, like in the diagram @ 0:19 So, basically pretend you're trying to drive the 9 ball between those two balls.
BadMadPlay You win based on your leagues rules. In the APA if you get an 8 on the break not only do you win a game but you also get a patch same goes for a 9 on the snap
What is the 3 to 1,,, 2.5 to1 etc for que ball placement???he shoots it from one side not 3 balls from center ,,,,no savvy buddy,,ive allways shot the 8 ball break from the side like that fairly consistently,,its won tournament games for me ,,,but i still no savvy the 3 to one thing you talk about ,can you clarify ,,ive been shooting thirty years and still dont comprehend
Ok i watched it 3times and figured out what you are saying about que ball placement ,and yes sir you are most correct,,i was just looking at the wrong spot on table because i could only see a small portion of the table and also misheard centerline of table instead of most importantly kitchen line ,,so sorry about the post i got it figured now ty
Is it legal in BCA or APA to not hit the head ball at the top of the rack? Hitting the second ball may be an illegal break...of course you would have to be called out on it
ok thats a nice idea but whats the point of the video? if the 8 ball fall she comes back again on the table! its a great idea for straight pool but for 8 ball it brings nothing!!!!!
If you play in the BCA the 8 ball is spotted if it is sunk on the break but if you play in APA, when 8 ball is sunk on the break the person breaking wins.
It's not true that it brings nothing. In international rules 8-ball is respotted but it counts as a pocketed ball, so it's not bad either. But of course in straight pool it could be a lethal weapon... (if you are able to sink it constantly).
in straight pool you'd be a moron to attempt this shot off the very first rack because if you miss you get not only -2 points but now your opponent has a huge open table of shots.
Did this by accident aiming center of the rack 😅 balls went everywhere and the eight was pushed into the middle by the rear balls pool master that night (owner) dubbed i won ending a five minute argument
+Matt McKinnon logic tells me that if you have a 6 ft table it's 1.5x1 balls. Don't think it's magic and you'll be shooting the 8 ball in every time you hit the rack. But it helps to get that 8 ball moving. Good luck.
