I think I messed up I did c6 but c7 looks like it shares a hole but I already soldered c6... this is my first ever solder...I do not see where I can put c7 without using another pcs spot :(
I followed everything exactly the way you did, but on the speaker is getting power. I can here the knob click, and then I can hear the speaker with white noise but nothing else. Buttons don’t do anything, and the red LED doesn’t even light up
Taylor Wachacha Maybe one of the places on the back of the board, where you solder on to, has become disconnected from the actual board, or there isn’t very good radio reception. I really don’t know. I’m sorry to hear about your radio not working. There is a troubleshooting section in the manual for how to build this radio, so that might be helpful.
Interesting, I am not entirely sure what to do in that situation. In the right side of page 5 of the manual, which the link is in the bottom part of this comment, it mentions the possibility of the radio displaying unwanted signals at 10.7MHz above or below the oscillator frequency, but nothing about being 54.55MHz above the oscillator frequency. Great video thanks for taking the time to document your build. My only suggestion is to get a piece of sponge to keep moist, this can be used to wipe the solder iron between joints to avoid buildup of excess solder on the tip. When soldering these PC board projects, a well tinned and clean iron makes all the difference.
I'm not sure. I think the buttons change to different frequencies with a constant distance between them, like changing 10 meters per button press, then finding channels of that frequency, but I don't know.
Mine works & I get reception but the volume knob doesn't adjust the volume! It's more of a tuner and only works in one location. In other words, the volume is at a set level and I can't turn the volume up. Got a fix for this?
In that situation, I'm not sure what happened. Potentially, some components were misplaced, but I'm obviously not a professional, so I don't know exactly what to say. Sorry about that.
good video. i bought a elenco 550 am ,but i messed up a copper soldering connection in the back, solder wont stick.do u have a suggestion as to a work around.it is for a capacitor component. thanks john
Well, it could be an issue with the reception, the speaker, the connecting points on the board, and/or the connections. For the reception, walk around with it while its on until you found an area with good radio signal. For the speaker, make sure it isn't broken in any way. For the connecting points on the board, make sure they're all connected to the board, and not peeling off. For the connections, make sure there is enough solder on the parts to have a strong connection between them.
They can be. If the metal that you put solder on is connected, then you can bridge the solder. I bridged the solder, so I think that it should work fine.
