Interesting! There is no right or wrong way if doing a trick so this is your version. You can think how this can be done with a shell or a locking cube which can we handed over to the spectator to handle.
Why would you want to hand it over to the spectator? This would leave the spectator in charge of your prop and allow unnecessary scrutiny on their part. As the performer you should always be the one in control at all times. You should be able to demonstrate to the spectator the impossibility of the trick by manipulating the object and dispel any thoughts they might be thinking of how it was done. Remember you are performing an illusion not a puzzle for the spectator to try to solve.
@@binnsbrianHanding props over for examination is a common standard practice in magic. It gives spectators the impression that no gimmicks are used, thereby enhancing the effect of the trick.
This is not "wrong" looks like you invented another "right" method for the trick. I watched the older secret in another magicians' videos and its gimmick is quite different than this. I won't give out the whole secret, but one clue: in the other more common version, gimmick is not in the cube, but in the bigger box. Won't give out the whole secret because maybe you'll invent another gimmick in the big box while thinking what it might be, and invent even 3rd method of doing the same effect.
