5 years later and i still LOVE this recipe ; I just add 1/2 tsp vanilla to the eggs And 1 tsp instant coffee to the hot water and that enhances the chocolate flavor to the MAXXXXX. thank you so much for an amazing recipe Stay at home chef . God bless.
Tried this recipe today, it’s was everything you said it would be. It’s was fantastic , moist, rich, chocolaty and so easy to make…but the most bizarre thing happened… and this is the absolute the truth.. my son started talking about the cake in Matilda. And he had no idea where I got the recipe from and we have not watch the movie in about 20 years … so crazy!!! I will always use this recipe now!!!!
I immediately thought of Matilda's cake as soon as I saw the pictures of this one. It just looks very much alike and she mentioned it was her intention too. So yes😂
Just made this cake, even my picky parents liked it. For anybody who wants to make it you should give it a try!!I already wrote it in my answers but I'll say it here, I didn't use this frosting recipe I just mixed a random amount butter Cocoa powder and icing sugar, have a nice day! 😊
I made your cake today I was worried in the past I made other famous cooks cakes and I was always disappointed. Your chocolate cake was 200% the best chocolate cake i ever in my life. It was rich, moist, it had a amazing chocolate flavor. It was the best chocolate cake ever. Plus it was so easy to make thank you for such a great recipe.
Thank u so much dear....today's my wife's b'day n i made it first in my life....actually for the first time ever i entered my kitchen....Thanks alot for making this day so special for me...god bless
I’ve tried at least 4 different chocolate cake recipes and this is the fifth one. Don’t give it a second thought. Trust me it’s delicious and so moist omg. 🤤❤️❤️ I’ve finally found the perfect one. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. And I baked all mine for 30 mins.
I just tried this recipe for my family and I and we LOVED it! And that says a lot for my husband to like it because he really isn't into cake. This recipe will be used in our home for sure so thank you again!!
i make this cake ALLLL the time! Let me tell you that this cake is AMAZING!! I get so many compliments about my chocolate cake and i always tell them to watch this! Thank you soooo much
Best chocolate cake recipe the only thing I changed was I added a teaspoon of coffee into the hot water then into the batter. No coffee taste in the cake it just tasted like chocolate heaven!!! THANKYOU
The best moist cake ever ( for me ), I made 4 layers then my kid took it to school for sharing to all her best friends they love it, and she said " Don‘t change the recipe " lol Thank you so much for a great video.
I actually changed this recipe a bit because I didn‘t have butter milk so I used regular milk instead and added less amount. I also changed the frosting, I only used icing sugar no cream cheese and I used only 2 or 2 1/2 cups of icing sugar more than that it will be too sweet for me. You can add a little bit at a time then taste it.
My daughter and I made this cake for my husband who loves chocolate cake but he wanted it with no icing so we made two small cakes one with icing and one without. OMG!! This cake was the most delicious cake we ever tasted! Even without any icing, It was sooooo good. My husband raved about this cake and wants me to make this cake every time! Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe❤️
Substituting strong coffee for the hot water, and melted butter (or if you want to get fancy, clarified butter) for the oil won't change the consistency of the end result but it will greatly enhance the richness of the cake.
The Stay At Home Chef Ok. Your recipe is very close to a recipe I had gotten a couple decades ago from (of all places) the American Heart Association Cookbook called Black Devils Food Cake. The only difference between them is the other one used hot strong black coffee to enhance the flavor, the baked texture is identical in appearance to this one, just darker due to the coffee, and extremely moist as well. If you say using butter changes the moisture I'll take your word for it, I've just been going through my old recipes and replacing oil with clarified butter and (at least for me) the results haven't really changed. But, I will admit I was basing it off how very close the two recipes were. One thing I like to do with mine, since it appears to make about half the amount this one does, is turn it into the second layer of an overload cake. Bottom layer flourless chocolate cake, top layer the black devils food, and then a white chocolate whipped frosting.
The Stay At Home Chef Hi I have a couple of questions about the chocolate cake recipe you said we can use buttermilk I low fat is that okay they were out of regular and what is the way to measure your flour should l use a pyrex glass cup or should I use the measuring cup what would be best I really want to get this right 😊thank you
Luc Van kasteel The poster of the video already addressed that, and I misspoke because I generally use clarified butter, mainly for the flavor (just like I substitute strong black coffee for the water). *for me* clarified butter does not dramatically alter the moisture of the cake enough for me to notice. The removal of the milk solids from the butter will get it closer to oil, but yes oil will work far better than butter of any kind (clarified or no) if you're going for the full moisture. If that's your goal, just stick to something like the strong black coffee or a darker cocoa powder (if you can find it) to enhance the flavor.
I did this cake today and it is absolutely amazing! I just changed two details: I used 1 teaspoon of coffe with the warm water and instead of the buttermilk,I used the regular milk! This cake is perfect❤If you do it,you aren't going to regret😂🥰🥰 ☆Although this cake doesn't need, you can moisten each layer(before the chocolate icing) with some milk and sugar! I guarantee,it became even more delicious🥰
I just made this cake and this lady wasn't joking about it being the cake from Matilda... this cake really truely is amazing... i am a pastry chef and looking for new ideas thats how i came across this video... i give this cake a 10 out of 10 but may i just note that to anyone making this recipe to half it as i made 2 massive cakes with this recipe and also for the icing add 4 cups of powded sugar not 7-8 there is a big difference in taste... 4 cups taste way more chocolaty and less sweet. Cool vid!
mcwaste thanks for the tip, I also thought that 8 cup of sugar is too much, but when you say "to half it" then you say 4 cups of sugar is taste way more choclaty... I want to make small one for 3 people in my family if you say half it automatically means half the 8 cup sugar to keep the sugar right.. or did you mean to half it ... and the sugar is 2 cups
Just made made it today for my grandpa's birthday and it was the first time me baking a cake, it literally turned out so well... My grandpa loved it!! Thank you so much for this amazingly tasty recipe!♥️
I won't trade this cake recipe for anything. This is heaven sent definitely. I love your voice and how you explain everything, its soothing and relaxing.
I am Asian and I am used to having a dessert that is not too sweet. So my taste will be different from a typical American. I spent 7.25 hours making this cake in one day with 3/5 of the amount of sugar suggested in the recipe. Half of the sugar would be a little extreme. I made only 1 layer instead of 3 layers so everything was divided exactly by 3, even the frosting. Even when I already reduced the sugar, the frosting was a little bit too sweet for me and I added 8g of cocoa. Besides, 1 layer was enough for me. At first, I thought with so little amount of ingredients the cake would not be big enough. However, after baking it, adding the frosting and the decoration, the result was a pretty huge and beautiful cake. Everyone LOVES it. My dad said the cake was really delicious and he rated it a 10 out of 10, even though he does not like cakes at all. He even ate a second piece and told me that he would be eager to eat the pieces left in the fridge. When being asked to comment about the level of sweetness of the cake, he said: “The sweetness is just right, not too sweet or less sweet. The sweetness of this cake is similar to a cake of a 5-star restaurant, no joke”. My cousin who is picky said it was tasty too. 10/10 again. She also wanted another piece for her daughter and said she would drop by my house other times to eat the cake haha. I had for myself a second piece too. I have watched around 6 videos making chocolate cake. Then I think the reason why this video has so many views is because of the success rate of the cake. The recipe she suggests ensures that you 99.9% get a tasty cake. Just follow this ultimate recipe, make changes to your preferences and you will succeed in making this cake!
@@MeryMeryem girl. Here you are. Making butter milk: 117g milk + 10g lemon juice. Let stand 5 minutes. The milk will get thicker and clumpy. Wait for butter and buttermilk to be at room temperature.
Okay so I made this cake and it turned out SO GOOD!! The cake itself is really moist, fluffy and delicate- it is SO SOFT and FUDGY and instead of using the icing stated in her recipe, I filled the cake layers with a whipped chocolate cream, and iced the sides with a rich chocolate buttercream, and covering the top with chocolate ganache. It really does taste INCREDIBLE!!!!
My recent bakes have been flopping like no ones business but this recipe came out so wonderfully. My batter came out more runny but still worked. Beautiful cake. Thank you because it gave me more motivation to keep on baking and trying new recipes.
@@jimmorrison4ever529 You’re the second person to mention the King Arthur flour in the past two days! There must be something to it! Personally, I think Pillsbury is👎🏼. Being a beginner baker myself, I’m taking this good advice! 😊
This cake is the best chocolate cake I have ever had! It is so moist and delicious. I've had problems with other recipes when I don't have enough batter to make layers. This recipe can make multiple thick layers. 10/10 great cake!
This was my first cake during the lockdown for my husband's birthday. And ever since I baked this people have been asking me to make it for them. I opened my small business with this❤️❤️
I just wanted to tell you "Thank you, thank you, thank you sooooo much for this recipe!! My daughter-in-law is as crazy about chocolate as I am. I made this cake for her birthday. She loved it!!! I did too. She cut it while I was there. Sooooo moist, sooooo chocolate and just sooooo delicious. Thank you, thank you so much for this recipe. YUMMMMM !!!! Can't wait to try more recipes. God bless
Hi. I’m from Trinidad in the Caribbean. I made this cake last night and it is divine! Super moist . I cut the sugar , and I added 1cup of warm water with a tsp of coffee and 1 cup of vegetable oil. It was amazing ! I also made the frosting 😋😋😋❤️
Just made this cake today. I have no words. It’s that good. I didn’t have buttermilk, so I used apple cider vinegar with almond milk and it still came out amazing.
For people looking for reviews, this cake was great! It's incredibly moist and delicious. I made mine with chocolate ganache and it of course went well together ❤️ Thank you also for providing the grams measurement! I did not notice it the last times I've watched so I had to convert it myself lol 🤣
Oh my!!It’s the most delicious cake We’ve ever tasted! I made it for my son’s birthday yesterday and everyone loved it!Thank you for this amazing reciepe!😍🥰❤️🎂
Delicious cake!! I divided all measures by 3 to make only one layer and it worked perfectly. I love chocolate cake, and this one was one of the best I ever tried. Thank you!!!
I tried this recipe today and I’m speechless, it’s amazing! The cake was so delicious, moist and fluffy almost like it melts in my mouth☺️. I love it! Thank you for this recipe!
This is so helpful im 15 years old and i told my mom i wanna be a bakery shop owner and i am trying to suprise my mom for a cake that i made and thank you , your videos really helped me.
I made this recipe tonight and I must say that this is the most delicious, Moist chocolate Cale I’ve ever tasted, and it’s beautiful too. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
I tried a version of this cake. I used coffee instead of water (it doesn’t taste like coffee at all but it resaltes the flavour of chocolate), I usually don’t use too much sugar so I only put 2 cups of it and a little less of chocolate powder. The result was a mix a little bit less liquid than she shows in the video although I don’t exactly know the reason (in anything, I added less of dry ingredients)... but, however, I ended with one of the most delicious cake I’ve ever tasted. It was extremely moist and full of taste, and with every day it was more and more assented so it incressed its flavour. After trying lots of recipes, I have to say that, to this day, this one is my favourite one (with all the little things that Inchanged on it).
I will do it for my daughter birthday and i will put coffee as well can u tell me how u made the frosting exactly the same ? And i can put 1 pan in my oven can i put 1 pan at a time ? And of the birthday os Sunday u think we must do it 3 days before ?
@@ivyjules yes , you can put 1 pan.. 2 or 3 days, is fine, make sure leave out of the fridge at least 10 or 15 (if warm) min before eat, so the frosting is a little "melt" and taste better
@@ivyjules for frosting try chocolate ganash its lovely just cut up some chunks of dark chocolate and warm double cream. Put the chocolate in when you have the double cream off the stove. Put the chocolate in the double cream let is set for about a minute and mix.
Hey . Can I make cakesicles out if this recipe. I mean after adding the whipped ganache to it in order to make it come together? Will it cone together?
Baked this recipe yesterday and it was amazing. I've been attempting a tier cake for a while now and have failed several times. This recipe has enabled me to finally achieve this. However, my baking time lasted until 45 minutes if this helps anyone attempting it. Thank you so much for this great recipe.
I made this for my birthday Yesterday (14 August) and it came out awesome... the only difference I did was added 2 tea spoons coffee to the hot water. This was the best cake I ever made!!!!!
I used roughly a third of this recipe for one 8" pan and while it cracked a little on top and I will probably use a 9" pan next time, it turned out DELICIOUS. A tender, moist crumb with amazing chocolate flavor. I subbed out just a little of the hot water for hot coffee, and used a buttermilk substitute of whole milk + white vinegar. Absolutely the best chocolate cake recipe I've tried so far. I used your cream cheese buttercream frosting recipe as a basis to form my own version, it came out light, melt in your mouth, not too sweet and so delightfully chocolatey! For me it was the absolute perfect pair with the cake. My husband and I both ate 3 slices back to back!!!! Thank you so much.
I’m making this tomorrow on my day off. I seen a meme that u can buy cake whenever as an adult and I realized I only eat cakes on birthdays and now I want some.
Park Sue the buttermilk is what makes it so rich and moist, so my advice would be try to get your hands on some OR you can make a substitute yourself - regular milk + a tablespoon or two of lemon juice, let it sit a few mins, then use as buttermilk. Google it if you want
All I see is quarantine comments so here is an actual review comment: I made this cake but without the chocolate in the middle because I only wanted one tier and it truly is the most delicious chocolate cake I’ve ever made just be sure to follow the recipe exactly
This is the best chocolate cake recipe in the world trust me , I watched it when it got released and made it, whole family liked it, now I'll make it again
Pro tip for those of you that didn’t already know: you can easily divide this recipe into thirds for one layer or two thirds for two layers (1 cup of flour for one layer, etc.) for the eggs if your making one layer just do one large egg but if your doing two just use three eggs Also instead of just warm water I mixed in a little bit of coffee powder just to make the chocolate flavor pop ( not a fan of coffee but you don’t end up tasting coffee flavor so all’s good, but better) I also made this a two layer and it was super delicious and moist, for the frosting I just used my own vanilla cream cheese frosting recipie :) Edit: for all of you wondering here is the adjusted recipe for only two layers that I used [pan size 9x9 in.] : 2 cups flour 1 1/4 cup sugar (the real recipient divided is 2 cups sugar but I find that way too sweet) 1 cup coca powder 2 tsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 3 eggs 1 cup buttermilk 1 cup warm water (with about a teaspoon of coffee powder mixed in optionally) 3/16 cup oil (fill a 1/4 cup measurement with about 3/4 filled) 1 tsp of vanilla Enjoy :)
Using algebra for six year olds is considered a «pro tip»?? Here is a real pro tip: use a weight when cooking, not cups and other very non accurate measurements
John I know a lot of people knew this which is why I said for those of you that didn’t know. Also a lot of people don’t just have a twenty five dollar scale on hand so this could’ve been helpful for them. I’m sorry I was trying to do something nice for them
gahhh all these measurements drivee me crazy 🤣 reazon why i never bake lol but if you can please share your exact measurements you used for your 2layer, then iwill really appreciated it! would love to make this with my kids. since a birthday is coming up ❤
Honestly the best cake ever and I am not over exaggerating. It was so soft and chocolatey but instead of water I used coffee (1 teaspoon to 1 1/2 cups) I am so glad i found it 😘
Baked this for my brother’s birthday a few days ago. The cake itself was moist and rich but the icing was too sweet for me. I even reduced the recipe from 7-8 cups to 5 cups of powdered sugar but it was still super sweet. Anyway, just taste it before adding more powdered sugar. I tasted mine when I already put 5 cups to the mixture so I had no choice. Thanks for the recipe! 😍
Hey there. I have been making this recipe for over a year! It is tonight, I discovered the video when I went to the website to see if I can find a metric version for the ingredients! The recipe is wonderful and yields such a fantastic cake that my kids and friends love! I top it with a chocolate Ganache to give it that extra dimension. I use milk instead of water and butter instead of vegetable oil for richer taste! You are so true, the better the cocoa powder it is the better and richer the taste is! Thank you very much for the recipe and thank you for the simplified way of the preparation steps. I subscribed to your channel and I big big thumb up! Dislikers, Do reconsider looking at the video again and use the best ingredients to indulge yourself in one the best recipes....
Hi am from South Africa..Thank you very much. I have bake this cake twice and my family and colleagues love it. I also put in 2T of coffee to intensify the chocolate.😍😍
I lovedddd this cake, it was so easy. I only baked it for 25 minutes and it was so good. The batter was very crumby and when I baked it it made my kitchen smell like heaven. Definitely making again
In this quarantine i have more time on my hands and i`m experimenting more in the kitchen. I got so many compliments with this chocolate cake that i had to thank you for it. So moist and yummy, i wrote the ingredients as i`ve done it twice already! 👍🙋♀️
Hello, just wanted to say thank you. I baked the cake yesterday and used a white chocolate ganache between the layers. The cake was amazing and my mother and siblings loved it. Will definitely make it again and recommend everyone seeing this to make it as well. :3
I made this cake and it took me about 4 hours in total but it was definitely worth it, it's literally the best cake I have ever tasted Edit: I made this cake again it took me 2 hours this time still the best cake I have ever tasted
The Stay At Home Chef I cannot thank you enough for this amazing recipe. I have been making this cake since the day you posted it and till today in April 2021 it is STILL the most awesome chocolate cake that I’ve ever baked. God bless you.
I made this last year for my baby’s first bday, it was his first real taste of something sugary and sweet. He didn’t know what it was or how good it was, so he wasn’t interested in eating it lol but now, he knows, and I will make this cake again today!!! Yay!!
@@gottasayit9044 yep, most of the time.; but not always. For example, stevia powder doesn't taste sugary, but it's sweet. Also, a very spicy sauce that has a lot of sugar in it doesn't necessarily taste sugary if the spice is overpowering it. But I get what you're saying :)
THIS. IS. THE. MOST. AMAZING CAKE!!!!!!! and your instructions are fenomenal THANK YOU! !!!! i shared this cake with some friends at work and they loved it. I do have to say that i did add some espresso hazelnut powder and semisweet chocolate chips.
Where did you get the espresso hazelnut powder😳? It sounds absolutely devine🤤!! I have to get some ASAP🥰! Please.... I'm using espresso powder now & making this cake in a bundt pan & whatever is left over will go into small loaf pans or lg silicone cupcake molds. Thank you 🙆♀️🌈🌞🎉
I made this cake & I used 1 1/2 tsp espresso powder to the dry ingredients and I was worried that the batter was too thin, I filled the bundt pan leaving about 2 to 2.5" of space from the top. Next time I'll leave 3" this cake rose like crazy! I also filled a mini loaf pan 2" from the top & it was level with the top of the pan. It was delicious without any frosting! I made a chocolate buttercream frosting that I added espresso powder to & it was awesome! Not too sweet & firm enough to pipe with Russian piping tips that I've been wanting to try out. It was beautiful!! Thank you for an awesome cake recipe❣🙆♀️💯%💞💖👍👍👍👏👏👏
I made it and it was amazing!!! there were about 2 people out of 6 that said ''it could have been a bit more moist'' but I think they are just hating! lol I truly believe it was on point! I don't like cake that's dry, I'm all about moisture and amazing taste. This chocolate cake hits the spot, thank you...
For increase moist, you can use a little less flower or add an extra egg. Cake flour's moist content is not always the same. Or you can put apricot jam between the layers and icing on top. Just continue to bake.
I added a BIT of normal sugar an a BIT of vanilla sugar because my dad has diabetes, trust me, it was the best thing! I recommend adding vanilla sugar because it tastes like heaven!
Ive made this so many times now, only thing i added is a teaspoon of coffee powder to the water and after the cakes are cooled, water them with pomogranete juice or diluted jelly then cover them with ganache It gets sooo moist and the pomogranate flavour goes so well with chocolate cake
I made this cake over a year ago, today I’m back looking for this video because it’s the best chocolate cake Iv made. Go try this, highly recommended 👍👍
I made this cake over the weekend for fathers day and I have to say this is yet the best recipe I have used thank you so much for sharing such a easy to follow, amazingly chocolate tasty cake x
She predicted quarantine. Her Channel's name is "Stay At Home Chef". Edit: Thanks for all the likes guys! I didn't know my tiny analysis was that interesting.
This the best chocolate cake I have ever backed. Including the cheese butter cream. I used a little bit of food coloring to make look a bit darker. Follow the ingredients so simple so easy. Thank you chef
Nothing can beat Nigella Lawson's recipe on layered Chocolate Cake .... it's the most "softest" - most "regal" kind of taste, and the most "chocolate - death recipe" I ever had!
Made this cake for my husband's birthday and ohmygod!!! Everyone loved it!!!!!!! Thank you for this easy yet amazing recipe. I did not have time to make the frosting so I put on Nutella and it worked!! It didn't come out to be best looking cake because of the frosting duh but who cares when it tastes so delicious with right amount of sweetness and fluffiness.
my cake is currently the oven right now. I halved the recipe bc it was a bit to much I'm only making t a 2 layer cake and the only thing I didn't have on hand was the buttermilk :( (I added 1 TBS of white vinegar to my 3/4 C milk and let that sit for 5 mins) when my cake is done I will come back to leave the outcome for those who might be in the same situation :) edit: the cake is SOOOO good definitely does not NEED buttermilk the substitution was great. it was for my dads birthday and it was AMAZING
this recipe is bomb! best chocolate cake i’ve had. it’s so moist and delicious! my first time making it i used the oil and the cake was so good. but i wondered if butter would’ve made it more flavourful, so i substituted it with butter the second time making it, and it was perfect.
It is a magnificent cake. When I saw the cream I felt like biting into the device I was watching the video from. A magnificent cake made by a talented pastry chef.
Made this cake, and wanted to Thank You very much for the recipe! I halved the recipe (I don't like very tall cakes), became a big 2 layer cake! Used dark brewed coffee instead of water Used kefir instead of butter milk. (Better reaction with the backing soda then the butter milk in my opinion) {plain yogurt can be used instead of butter milk too} I would add more coco powder or use another brand next time I make it though. Used a sour cream chocolate frosting, a lighter alternative then cream cheese, but definitely a preference thing... : ) A deliciously moist and fluffy cake! Big hit with the kids! Thank you so much for the recipe again! Would highly recommend making this cake!
I recently use this recipe for my first home made chocolate and it came out so perfect! everyone was asking if it was a boxed cake...i love your simple steps its very helpful thank you!
