If you don't want the hook eye to break try heating it up with the torch to almost red hot it won't have as much tension and won't break as easily

If you pour your own jigs you can use a hook that is short enough that the line tie loop is buried in the lead and add your own line tie exposed at any angle you want. Nothing to break or bend!

Excellent video. I'd recommend that you get some UV cure resin (Loon makes it in several thicknesses, as do a couple other manufacturers) from a fly shop and at least put a bit on top of the eyes. If you use the thinnest type, you might coat the whole head for additional protection. It would probably add less than a minute to your process and would secure and possibly even accentuate the eyes. Just a thought...

My favorite mod is to cup the blade edges forward with the straight edge of a pair of needlenose plyers, so it catches water better and vibes harder (backwards catches less water, so it vibes softer, of course).

Use a heat gun to heat up your jigs, about 6-8 seconds per side on a jig that size does well. If you are not going to use a fluid bed have the powder paint in something big enough to dip the jig in. I use forceps to hold onto the eye of the jig to get less paint in it.

Milliken Fishing what size of hooks are your favorite and also what size are you using to do your lures?
@vegasvato55
@vegasvato55 6 лет назад
about .18 cents on the dollar or approximately 1/6th the cost of buying one... with the added bonus of being able to trailer your colors and trailers... As far as brand name goes frankly i have caught strippers on a Texas rigged boot string so it doesn't matter who make it or how expensive it is, if the person throwing it doesn't know what they are doing they wont catch fish anyway...
@roybain7197
@roybain7197 7 лет назад
Have you tried making it with a wobble head jig? If so, did the extra joint in the bait stop it from tracking correctly? I'm curious because I think the moving link between the head and hook might take leverage away from the fish and increase hook up/catch ratio. Thoughts before I give it a shot?
@MillikenFishing
@MillikenFishing 7 лет назад
Never tried that Roy! Go give it a shot and see how it goes. I feel the swing head works because it's a natural presentation and action, so adding more hardware may take away from the realism...but you can never know until you try.

@ShaneJMcNair

You can take a blunt point punch to spread open up the eye of the hook by hitting it on a vise or anvil. No twisting so less breakage. To close back just clamp in the vise. CREDIT goes to The Skimpy Guy channel. Thanks for sharing
