How to Make the Perfect Sidecar Cocktail. Sidecar cocktail is a simple but refreshing three-ingredient drink.

The Sidecar is a cocktail that was created during prohibition and originated in France. During the prohibition you will find the most popular cocktails in that era will be coming from Europe as American bartenders were moving to Europe in hopes of finding work.
The Sidecar is a simple three-ingredient cocktail consisting of French ingredients. Brandy is your primary liquor and traditionally made with cognac. The sweet for this cocktail will come from the orange liqueur and traditionally made with Cointreau a French Triple Sec. The final ingredient is Lemon juice, and this cocktail also calls for sugar to rim your glass as well.
The sidecar includes citrus so this cocktail is shaken and most likely served up in a coupe or martini glass with a sugared rim. This cocktail falls in the sour family, so if you like your cocktails sweeter then tart feel free to add more orange liquor or .5oz of Simple syrup to balance for your palette!

Sidecar recipe:
⚈ 2oz (60ml) Cognac
⚈ .75oz (22.5ml) Orange Liqueur
⚈ .5oz (15ml) Lemon Juice
⚈ Sugar rim and lemon peel garnish
1) Add ingredients to your shaker.
2) Add ice and shake for 8-10 seconds.
3) Strain into a coupe or martini glass. (With sugared rim)
4) Garnish with Lemon Peel

AJ, That is a nice looking Side Car if I do say so myself. And I do. I wish I could get my hands on that Orange Liqueur that you use.

Thanks David!! Yea the orange liqueur is great! I taste-tested it to Pierre Farrand Dry Curacao, and some of us even like the Grand imperial more, and it was 1/4 the cost! :) And the bottle is cool looking too! 👍

Cocktail Cards I do not, I had to look that up. Never seen that before. I’ll add it to my list. I use a brandy from a distillery in Louisville called Butcher Town.

I do love me some Grand Marnier! My orange liqueur is also brandy based as well, and we even did a blind tasting, and this one won! How it affects the cocktails tho.. well.. more testing needed! :)

Hi!! A long ways back, about 20 years ago, I was introduced to the Sidecar cocktail at a dinner party. It was summer, and nice and warm out, and I immediately fell in love with this drink. I don't have it often but I really enjoy one here and there. My palette got much for oriented towards herbaceous and bitter in the years since then. Now I would probably order a cocktail with Campari or a lovely Amari. Your sidecar looks amazing and I need to make one. Gorgeous and balanced and so delicious!!
