Follow my 2-year journey in creating the ultimate Virtual Pinball machine. In this first video, I show the old pinball cabinet I started from and how I prepare for paint and decals. The playfield, backbox, and score screens are all installed using a serviceable mechanism, and the remaining empty space is covered as well. A great first step!

@@overtinker.projects Thanks, really looking forward to the coming videos, so far you have a solid build there :) I'm also working on restoring a wide body Roller Disco machine from Gottlieb at the moment, my first restore, which is a handfull to say the least, those spider chips was all rotted away by battery acid so I'm having to replace the motherboards with the modern replacements - so I'm building a new body from scratch for my virtual build so your videos will come in handy for the interiors, that tv mounting solution of yours is golden :)

on the apron... most digital pintable software adds the apron and instruction art already, you want your playfield monitor to come all the way down to your glass lock bar.
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 4 месяца назад
That's a personal preference, but indeed when you do that you can read the instruction cards in game. I prefered having actual depth so it looks more realistic. I have the instruction cards linked to a button in popper so I can read them there

Looks cool; will be interesting to see the coming part(s). I have two SD arcade cabinets atm. As I would actually prefer to live smaller don't think this is a project I'll emulate anytime soon but will save for future reference and maybe build something smaller along the lines of a tabletop like Sharpin (I enjoy virtual pinball enough without having a proper machine. NES pinball/Space Cadet/Worms- and Pokémon Pinball is the shit).
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
Yeah this is definitely not a project if you're tight on space. But a vertical cabinet or VR are good options too
@SicketMog
@SicketMog 6 месяцев назад
@@overtinker.projects Yeah a vertical cabinet sounds awesome to me. I've seen the "Sharpin" ones but something MORE vertical perhaps. What's VR? Virtual Reality pinball?
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
@SicketMog yes, I meant VR. With VR goggles you can actually see depth and look around, and you could make a tiny controller for it because you don't need to have a screen to look at

@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 4 месяца назад
@brucep383 it is noticeable, but I'm on VPX 10.7 and 10.8 has some software tweaks that improve the responsiveness. I compare it to switching between an EM to a 90's machine, or 90's to modern Stern. It takes some getting used to but after a while you don't notice it anymore
@brucep383
@brucep383 4 месяца назад
that's good to know thanks, I built a 24" mini build (with IPS monitor) a couple of years back and am starting on a 32" playfield build now, I think i'll try and stick with a monitor in 4k, more expensive but the response time is v good, I am tempted by a TV like yours though. @@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects

@brucep383 if you have the option to fit a pc monitor instead of a regular tv I'd definitely go for the monitor. Response times will be lot better

Cool project. Friendly feedback: I really want to see more of what it looks like in operation. I just skimmed over the video because I can't see what the finished project looks like. Your other video barely shows short clips as well.
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 7 месяцев назад
There are a couple of clips of the finished cab in the beginning, but yeah, not very in-depth. I was planning to showcase it more in the last video when it is finished and show some more gameplay. That doesn't really fit in the first videos while I'm still building I think

Real pinball is 3d, and more fun.
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
You can connect VR glasses to a virtual pinball as well, that makes it 3D. Everyone has a different opinion of course, but I think virtual pinball is as fun as real pins. It is definitely not the exact same thing, but I love playing both

Yes, as said impressive, but with all your tools you still ruined an original pinny cabinet.
@overtinker.projects

I did use an original pinball cabinet as a base, but it was empty anyway, so it could not be restored. I gave that disclaimer as I also really don't want people to just go around and convert working pins

I appreciate how polite you give your opinion. Out of curiosity, what do you think would have been the best solution for an empty cabinet like this? Try and find a new playfield and all matching electronics to try and make it work again?
@EmeraldHill-vo1cs

@@EmeraldHill-vo1cswrong. Thats thing was never going to get restored. Near impossible and the expense would be 100x any possible value. He took a pile of shit cab and made it usable and kept the spirit of pinball alive. Its like theowing fuel injection into a classic car. There will always be purists that throw a fit a refuse to grow with the times. EXCELLENT build Sir.
