I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle ru-vid.comUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

I have cut down trees for several years, and your details about felling is really good. There will always be exceptions because the trees now once the trees Many people who want to cut down trees should have just one day with you in the woods, then there would be many fewer accidents with logging.

I literally watched this video to fell my first tree... If you will. It was a 2-ft diameter oak with a slight back lean... If you will. My 25-in Stihl ms311 barely cut through... If you will. I was so confident, if you will, that I called the shot just like babe Ruth. If you will. I started my back cut and when the saw was in deep enough, I started pounding wedges... If you will. Cut a little bit, pound a little bit cut a little bit, pound a little bit... If you will. I felt pretty good about myself when the professional Davey tree service two houses away gave applause. I had actually had conversation with them before I started and they knew it was my first tree. If you will.

I have watched this and your other (actual felling) video a number of times and found them both to be very useful in clearing my own lot. Thank you. Two things that I didn't pick up at first was the black 'sighting' line on the saw (which is very useful) but more importantly that the "HOLDING WOOD" is not parallel to the hinge, but cut at an angle to allow the wedge to be placed almost perpendicular to the hinge. I don't think that this is stated or described in your video, but it is shown. One tree that caused me some indigestion was one that was 2-inches wider that my bar, and so I was left to fish around to match up the plunge cuts.

husqy vids have been very helpful and seeing a company produce something like this tells me they take it seriously, i'm glad i'm a husqy saw owner....just wish i could afford one of your dirt bikes too. lol

Ive been felling trees for about the length of this video and thus this video has been invaluable to me. I am safer, smarter and stronger now with this knowledge. Lightweight baybayyyy!

This is an excellent video because it totally explains why you are doing something, how to do it and the measurements. The one thing I wish had been explained was using wedges. I make my cut from the back, all the way through to the hinge, instead cutting the hinge first, removing the blade and then cutting the back. But what I do is once I go is so far, I insert my wedges and then continue the cut to the hinge. This way ensures that the tree cannot accidently pinch the blade. I pull the saw out and then drive the wedges in further until the tree begins to fall. If someone has a different opinion, please let me know and also explain why your opinion is correct.

Good advice for novice Sayers. But comes up a little short for big timber professional cutting. And Humboldt cuts are specifically designed for log utilization. When your paid by scale. Standard cuts only mean another 200 board feet deducted at the Mill.

Husqvarna is the best all around. Even their instructionals. One suggestion for everyone... ALWAYS CHECK YOUR NUTS ON CLUTCH COVER. even on pro models. I JUST had my 28 inch fall apart mid cut while light milling. Their safety tech 100 percent saved my life/limb. Still an in issue my beloves HUSQVARNA!🙃

(My one critique: In the middle of the video, the instructor seemed a little unsure of his delivery, and in nervousness, inserted the filler phrase, "if you will" several times. Should've left those off. I'm sure that more practice would help there, each time getting more calm and conversational when speaking to his audience.) I really do like the tip about leaving some "holding wood" at the very back of the back cut. And although I knew how to make the notch and slightly higher back cut, I wasn't really sure why the back cut being higher helped. I'd thought it was just to create a taller hinge for strength as it bent the first 45 degrees. Now I know! YAY! This video cleared that up. It's an anti-slip-back tree holder. Super! Even if the trunk is straight up and down the tree can still be heavy on one side. You have to take a good look at the canopy and watch for more growth on one side. When the builder cut back the tree line to build my house the remaining trees started reaching into the void and after a few years the smaller trees showed visible lean but the bigger trees stayed true despite the increased weight imbalance. I used a two rope system to safely drop them. One rope as a safety and one rope to a continuous rope puller. I made extremely wide but shallow notches and multiple shallow back cuts going up from the standard back cut to allow the tree to bend more before falling. I also dealt with a variety of internal rot among these imbalanced trees. That was some scary stuff! Again I used a very wide but shallow notch with multiple shallow back cuts and then went back and forth adding a little tension with the puller and deepening the notch. Once I created tension I stay away from the back of the tree because I don’t want to end up in a barber chair!!! When creating the notch I would start small and then increase the width of the notch as I learned more about the internal structure of the tree. If there was rot I adjusted my notch according to how the rot was situated inside the tree, some rot was centered but some was to one side...

I really glad that I watched this! The 2nd cut featured... "the Humboldt cut," is something I've never heard before? And I gotta tell ya... I'm really surprised I haven't heard of this before? My father, my brother and I, are arborist. My father owned a tree service company for several years. I started working when I was 16, and I worked with him about 6 years. I'm 53 years old now and still doing tree work. I'm surprised, this is the first time I've heard of this cut, because, Humboldt County California, is where me and my family live?!? I've seen that cut, I've done that cut... I just didn't know, that's what the cut is called? Very cool, much appreciated... cheers!

The Humboldt originated to reduce wood shatter by allowing the (usually Redwood) tree to go butt first to the ground. The original Humboldt included a block cut the purpose of which was/is to reduce pressure on the hinge of the undercut and thereby better guide the tree into the lay. The Humboldt version above is the standard for virtually all west coast logging and has been for many years now. It does reduce breakage- especially in brittle trees like cedars or redwood- and leaves a relatively square butted-log which west coast most mills demand, and arguably it may (can) reduce waste. There's also a common version of a Humboldt cut that includes elements of both the standard (traditional/farmer/lowlander cut) and the Humboldt above. The original Humboldt was not invented because of steep ground concerns, and make no mistake, a Humboldt with little or no stump shot does little to stop a tree from kicking back irrespective of slope..No undercut method ensures a tree will not kick back. Also no matter how you undercut a tree, as it falls, the hinge is under pressure, otherwise it is guiding nothing. Maximum pressure and pressure are not the same things.

7:40 Time. One, could also use the 3 gill method, on this far right example. 3 vertical slits, 1 from the front-cut face, above the hinge, 2nd one higher, 1.5 inches to its left ; 3 rd one, same. Expands, the hinge, vertically as well. 2 nd and 3 rd ones, bottom meets top of other one. Progressive ; for LARGE trees.

A horizontal back cut will always allow the tree to ‘jump’ backwards along that flat surface. If a Humbolt cut is used on the front and the back cut is angled down, parallel to the bottom of the Humbolt notch, would that do a better job of preventing the tree from jumping backward?
