Another authentic recipe Natasha, guys don’t hate on me eh but I started pressure cooking my dal. It saves me time when I’m in a hurry. I have Dahl in ten minutes flat and I finish it the same way. For those asking about the burnt garlic, that’s how we do it and it delicious there’s no bitter taste 🙂

Yummy recipe. Tip: For a safer option to chunkay your dhal, you can do it in a smaller pan. Using the dabbu (or whatever it is called), can be unsafe...

@@commess1 i used the dabu in when i just learned to cook. Use to scare me IF it slipped . Then i saw my Grandma just took out a small pan chunkay. Never really thought of it but sounds easier lol so I've bn using a small frying pan ever since!. 😅 (its small enough to cook 1 egg at a time).

Is it "dhal" you buy and boil to make dhal or split peas? Need to be sure of what to look for at the supermarket

we call it dhal in Trinidad but the universal name is Split Peas.

It’s actually call yellow split peas before you cook them after finish cooking then it becomes dhall
@thekindredstoil

in our language Trinidadian English Creole, the word dhal is interchangeable meaning the dry peas and the finished dish. That's why dhalpuri (dhal (yellow split peas) puri (roti)) is a Trinidadian term
