Hi Kim thanks for this. What is the difference between a premium vinyl and normal vinyl please? Also, does this last long or come off, how does it do with washing ie?

Hi Ernest! Premium Vinyl is water-resistant and UV-resistant. And the Permanent Premium Vinyl, lasts up to three years, even in the great outdoors. I use permanent for things like mailboxes. All this said, I still hand wash my mugs. I have washed them in the dishwasher and the chunkier letters or designs have survived fine. The whispy lettering has pulled away in the heat. **Don’t forget to wipe the mugs/glasses with alcohol to get off any hand prints etc off before applying the vinyl!

Kim Byers I did mugs for all my family for easter using cricut permanent vinyl and some of them are coming off already just being washed. I was told by someone to use Mod Podge dishwasher safe over the top, however that leaves brush marks. Have you any ideas for me.

Hi Lee! I hand wash all of my vinyl mugs and haven't had a problem yet. I also use Cricut brand vinyl. Dishwashers can get so hot they melt the "sticky" on the vinyl and they'll start to peel. How are they being washed? As for the Mod Podge, I've not tried it, but it sounds interesting! Did you use a traditional brush or a foam brush? I would think a wide foam brush, that covers your whole design at once, would work best. And maybe use a thin layer, allow it to dry, and apply a second and third time for good coverage. Hi Virginia! Yes! You can absolutely use a mat with the Maker 3. I like smart vinyl for some things, but I'm a lover of saving materials and when the project is small I use the mat. And if I use smart vinyl and there are edges I can cut away and save, I do. Those scraps can be put on a mat and used for the next project! 😊 Thanks for crafting with me! 💕🎄

Sabrina - I recommend hand wash only. I have placed vinyl in the dishwasher by accident and it survived, but normally I wouldn't risk it. As for how long they last this way, I made some Halloween mugs three years ago with my Explore and they're still perfect today. So glad you liked the video! A new one will be up tomorrow. Hi Brook! I actually have all three. I own the Cricut Joy (newest and smallest), Cricut Explore Air 2 and the Cricut Maker. I would suggest either the Joy or the Explore. The Maker is amazing, but if you're not planning to cut fabric, etch glass, cut wood, etc, you can go with the smaller machine. These mugs can be made by all three. I have an intro to the Joy and the Explore in my video library. 😍 This is my Cricut Joy playlist, and the intro video is at the bottom. Crister - hi there! Yes, the vinyl comes off easily so once you're tired of a design just remove it and make a new mug! As for how long do they last, I have some Halloween mugs that I made three years ago and they still look great! I think it just depends on how much you use them and how you care for them. Hi there! I have owned mine since it came on the market and I use it a bunch! 😍My best advice is to keep it clean, follow instructions regarding blades and don't try to cut too thick with the wrong blade, etc. and you should be fine to use it for years and years. Happy crafting!!

Vinyl sticks great to glass! There is a window cling (glass cling) product too, but there are very few color options and it comes off fairly easily.

If you hand wash, the vinyl will last for months. You can also use Permanent Vinyl and that will last for a few years. I've even had some success running it in the dishwasher, but only when the design is chunky like the bottom Christmas pattern mug. Thanks so much for watching! 😊

HI Veronica! I have microwaved my mug/coffee for less than 20 seconds without any problem. That said, I rarely do. There is a metallic vinyl and I wouldn't test that one. :)

Hey! I don't like to seal my mugs. I remove the vinyl after the holiday and create mugs for the next holiday. I used to try and keep them, but wow I had way too many mugs! 😂 Now I use my MugPress and the ink is permanent so I'm back in the same boat. Thanks for watching and happy crafting!! 💕

What do you use for sealing them? I am very new and learning…right now I know how to do decals with the fonts and that’s all I’ve done so far with it, and the sample cuts when setting it up. 😁I’d love to do mugs for my co-workers…for Christmas. Is there free images that I could download for that? I haven’t joined the Cricut Access yet. I’m debating to see if I need it. Which, I probably will!🤪. Thank you!

I am thinking of getting the Cricut Maker 3 smart to advertise my pet sitting business. I've been told the marker 3 is worth the money and is perfect for advertising. I was wondering how hard it is to learn to use the Maker 3? I pick up things quickly but I've read up on it and seems a bit confusing. I am interested in making cards, advertisements, mugs anything that machine can make. I saw the other machines like the easy press, mug presser ( whatever you want to call it LOL) I am hoping as long as I get the maker three that I don't have to buy the other equipment because of the Maker 3. The little machine to put your design on coffee mugs is there anything that the mug press can do that the maker 3 cannot? I would just like to have one machine that does everything. The Cricut has put out to do any information about he could give would be lovely I would like to know everybody's opinion since everybody thinks differently. If someone can tell me all the Maker 2 can do would be cool.

Hey Sarah! The Maker 3 is much like the original Maker, except you can cut smart materials (without a mat) with the newer machine. It's a great tool to have. That said, if you only want to cut paper, vinyl and iron on, you could get the Explore 3. The step up to the Maker is mostly about fabrics, and thicker materials. The Cricut site has a detailed grid showing you the difference. I would just google Cricut Explore and Maker comparison grid to find it. The easy press is for iron on projects, so you'll need it or something like it if you want to make tshirts and fabric items. The mug press is the heat element for mugs and tumblers if you want to use infusible ink (permanent), or you can use vinyl without a mug press. As for learning how to use it, the machine itself is simple. Most people that have trouble get frustrated in Cricut Design Space. It too is easy, once you learn all the tools. To get that melted in look check out 'Water- slide decal paper'. get it on amazon. it is a type of vinyl as well but you slide it off under water and place it instead of using transfer paper. its a printable paper that you end up putting in an oven or believe it or not I used my unused air fryer for 15 minutes to seal itself /cure. Comes out pretty smooth and has a nice gloss to it. Check out Charmaine Galloway on you tube for videos about decal paper.

Hey Jorge! It's all preference. I personally make my mugs with the lettering facing me most of the time so that I can see the saying. Others like to place them on the outside for the person opposite you to read. 💕 Happy crafting!

Hi Marisol! There are two types. This is regular vinyl. I personally call the other "iron-on" but some companies and people call it "heat vinyl." The vinyl you place on mugs, cups, walls, etc, is just regular (no heat needed) vinyl. I hope this helps and thanks for watching! 💕

Marisol - yes! The vinyl works great with handwashing. I've never had one come off when I used Cricut Vinyl. Happy crafting!

Oh no! There is a "strong" transfer tape that is required for glitter vinyl. The standard just won't pick it up well at all! Maybe use that for your normal projects too! :)

@@KimByers I have some of the glitter transfer stuff, I will try that next time. I can get the vinyl up eventually with the normal transfer tape but it takes a heck of a lot of burnishing

The best transfer tape I’ve ever used is dollar tree clear contact! I have used paper transfer tape, circuit transfer tape and none of the compare to dollar tree cleat contact,

Hi Mainga - I always recommend hand washing your mugs. Permanent vinyl stays on really well. I've even accidentally put it in the dishwasher a few times by accident, but I still don't recommend it. ☺

Hi Desi! I would recommend hand washing. I've accidentally tossed some of mine in the dishwasher and they survived, but the designs were chunky. No small lettering. If I were going to make it for dishwasher use, I would use Permanent Vinyl. It will last longer than Everyday Vinyl. Happy crafting and thanks for watching! 💕
