It was a gift from a friend. Waxed Amaryllis are mostly for gift market I’m afraid. Personally I would prefer bulbs only too, they bloom much better in soil.
For healthy bulb, yes that's it, very easy. But we need to do more to prevent rot and disease if he bulb is not in a good condition. And the trick of fast rooting will enable it grow fast in the soil.
@@ritamoretti3080 you should leave the green leaves. They will soak up the energy from the sun to allow the plant to bloom again. Continue to water until you’re ready to put the bulb into dormancy.
I trimmed the basal plate from my waxed amaryllis, after removing the wax. But, I don't have any antifungal powder. I am letting it dry several days, as you suggest. But, what else can I use for anti fungal powder?
I cleaned up two and potted them, taking off the outer layer, which I thought was pretty aggressive. Now I see I should have trimmed back more. I hope they will be ok. I didn’t take anything off the bottoms. One has roots already growing, though and both have a healthy looking outer layer. Well, I wish I would have seen this a few weeks ago. Thank you so much for your generous information. At least I feel better about what I did do. ❤👍🪴
It is ok as long as it grow roots. If the basal plate gets old and thick, you can trim a bit when repotting next time, because a thick basal plate will somehow have less roots and hinder the growth.
If there's no rotting, you can just let the wound dry. I did't use those you mentioned, but I use gentian violet or 75% alcohol to disinfect the rottensurfaces as well.
