How long do you let the wine sit after adding bentonite and stirring daily for 3-4 days? My Concord grape wine is happily very dark so it’s hard to tell how clear it’s getting. Do I re-rack one more time and let sit for about a month before I bottle? Thanks.
@HowToDoneRight

You rack until it's clear enough for you.. keep watching videos show you about clearing wine in all my videos. Let sit in bentonite 30 days... bentonite should be your last racking.

I am making a gallon of Riesling Grape wine and I’ve heard it is best in a glass carboy. Should I remove about a cup of the juice so I can do the initial fermentation in my gallon jug? I have a 2 gallon plastic bin also. Appreciate any help. Thank you. Love your videos ❤

I did everything as you did...but I made a simple mistake, which was adding 15 grams of Vermid K, but in steps, not all at once, which contains DAP for a quantity of five gallons. I hope this is not a mistake. Now I have moved to secondary fermentation, and today is the tenth day. It smells nice, gravite reading is 0.993, but its taste is very salty. Are there solutions for saltiness? Or will the salinity go away with time?
@HowToDoneRight
@HowToDoneRight 4 месяца назад
I never had a salty wine.. it could be what you added... but most likely came from the grapes you may have used. Salt can be extracted from the soil.. when its time to backsweeten...hopefully the sugar will help.

@@HowToDoneRight I'm going to be making wine for the first time ever in my life but I've always been interested. I have some concord grapes given to me from my nephews grape vine. They've been cleaned and frozen. Probably about 13lbs. I was going to use them and also use Concord grape juice , store bought to add to it. About 2 gallons. Using that as the liquid instead of water. Do I still need to use sugar? And what yeast would you recommend? I have two kinds, Lalvin K1-V1116 Wine Yeast and Lalvin RC 212 wine Yeast . I purchased all the items you recommended. Maybe I'm just overthinking this. I just want to do this right. I bought a 6 gallon fermentation bucket to use for the starting process. I would appreciate your input❤️

Yes I would add sugar always to get abv right. I always use red star yeast in every wine I Make. Lalvin is good too. You will love the hobby just don't over think it and keep it simple. That's the key. Good luck. 👍👍👍👍

Is there a practice of using dark colored glass for some wine (so sunlight won't penetrate) and using clear glass for others like white wines?
@HowToDoneRight

Yes... if you can't store your wine in a dark place then use dark bottles... I use all clear bottles when I can but i store in a cool basement closet with no light.

I’ve watched so many of your enjoyable videos, and have read countless comments and haven’t seen any comments on the racking cane. I don’t understand why we have to hold the racking cane above the sediment since the bottom of the the racking cane has a tip on it that sits about half an inch or so above the sediment. Can you please explain? All the rackings I’ve done so far have had very little sediment.
@HowToDoneRight
@HowToDoneRight 9 месяцев назад
That is correct it does have a stopper... but if you look very closely and your racking cane has a good suction, you will see some sediment sometimes get pulled up the tube... so just monitor if you get alot of Sediment or dead yeast you need to lift it up some.

Thanks for this series! Great stuff. Question: after bottling as you lay the bottles on their side into the tub, several of them had (sediment?) that looked like it stirred up. Was that bentonite that got sucked up? Or something else? And is that normal after bottling to have some sediment? Thanks!!
@HowToDoneRight
@HowToDoneRight Месяц назад
Most likely sediment that got sucked up. The more you do the process the better you will get at it. Even I can get sediment in from time to time. But that is ok. Some wine companies actually will put grape skins in there wine bottles intentionally for added aged flavor. 👍👍🍷🍷

Many grape wine recipes say 16-18 lbs per gallon. This seems like so high! You call for ~4 lbs. Any idea why the large variance? I’m torn on what to do.
@HowToDoneRight
@HowToDoneRight Месяц назад
Lol... in my opinion you just don't need that many grapes to make a great wine. They are pressing the grapes removing alot of the pulp that make a good wine. We add the entire grape to the must and ferment the entire grape. We just then add aditional water. Freezing the grape also releases more juice from the grapes.

I have a question from Limerick PA! Love the videos, making my wine, should have started when I turned 21 but waited until I hit 51! What a miss in life, but hey having fun thanks to you. While my other wines are still fermenting in the buckets, I did a pear wine since it was one of the fresh fruits available (1st one, then realized to turn to frozen fruits) but I topped a stopper that came with the gallon carboy and it would slide straight back up towards the top. Concerned since it was in the secondary stage, I taped a whole mess of duct tape on the stopper and around the top of the bottle to push the stopper down farther. Was it because everything was wet? The sanitized stopper, the neck of the carboy, was it ok to just leave it where it was almost loose at the top and then push down later to see if it sticks? I know duct tape was not the way to go... concerned citizen about wine making.......and thanks for everything! You have taught us well
@HowToDoneRight
@HowToDoneRight 7 месяцев назад
Lol this is funny... I have had the same thing and taped my stoppers down also before... yes it is because it's wet and I just let sit on top.. I find after a day or 2 you can push down and will seal right up once it drys a little bit... but you got me laughing because we all have taped or stoppers or bunge. 😆😀😆😀
