Dried meal worms are not good for hedgehogs, a few are OK but hedgehogs that mostly eat them end up with bone problems from calcium deficiency.

FORK and the garden... Please, in autumn or winter, if you use a fork to move a pile of leaves or grass... please move it gently... This can be the hedgehog’s house, and we can easily hurt him with a fork or any cutting tool. Thanks a lot! and good gardening!

I have been putting food out for two hedgehogs that visit my garden each night....I put out Mealworms and plenty of water. I also bought a Hegehog house and put some hay inside it's being used too! how exciting!

It's now known that a diet of mealworms (which hedgehogs do love) will ultimately kill the hedgehog because they're high in phosphorus which depletes calcium and causes their bones to fail. Mealworms to hedgehogs is like giving chocolate to children - they love it but it will sure as hell ruin their health in due course.

Sorry but you were just slowly killing those hogs, dried mealworm cause MBD in hedgehogs, there's no cure, no treatment & they get put to sleep.

I have a hedgehog at the moment, his habitat has been disturbed by a new building project. However he falls asleep very quickly, anywhere, anytime, in the middle of the road, in the lane ways, in the path of on coming traffic this doesn’t seem to bother the hedgehog, after a while, up he gets and walks about quite energetically.

To keep him safe for now, I have turned a large box into a shelter for it, food, small quantities of dog food and fresh water every day. Bedding, pine branches and straw, which he loves. So I’m going to let it out for an hour or so at night to see what happens. My thoughts are to take it to the nearest forest, 3_4 miles away and let it go into that environment, would I need the permission of the forest caretaker? It’s very difficult to introduce the little animal back into the busy environment, in cutting grass and hedges farmers seem to leave no moving space in the fields for wild animals, a pathway along side the hedgerows may assist wildlife in crossing fields, however the cutting seems to go to the very bone of the hedges, leaving no room for wildlife to safely go about, of course every foot means a few £’ s to the farmer. How to help the hedgehog?

Mealworms aren't that great for hogs, especially young ones. Leaving out spikes hog food is best or even just cat biscuits.

For a so called "expert" on Hedgehogs I am surprised that the Dr. advises meal worms with no warning of the dangers feeding them to hogs can cause.

Well this video has horrific advice from a so called 'hedgehog' expert! '! Dried mealworm are a huge NO, they cause metabolic bone disease in hedgehogs, there is no cure, no treatment & all that can be done to hedgehogs suffering from it is to put them to sleep. I am appalled this video has been left up, should have been deleted or that part of the video deleted, I still can't believe a so called expert was advising to feed dried mealworms, I hate to think how many hogs have suffered as a result of people listening to the feeding advice in this video :(
