One option that many people do not consider that has worked well for me. Buy IKEA cabinets except do not buy the fronts, just the boxes with the interior lighting, functional drawers and organisers, great hinges and soft-close door hardware (which you can buy separately). Then, have a local custom cabinetry shop make the fronts that you want. I wanted inset doors for a more traditional look. IKEA doesn't DO inset. My local guy used red oak for the frames and red oak plywood for the doors. I used a whitewashed (actually closer to grey-washed) finish with the faintest shade of green to kill the pink tones of the red oak. They look like traditional cerused white oak. Was FAR less expensive than traditional white oak cabinets, less expensive even than cheap big-box store full-overlay red oak cabinets, and still provided me with my beloved traditional look. TIP: buy the cabinet units 2" -3" narrower than you need them. For instance, if you need an 18" cabinet, order it 15" wide. That gives the custom cabinet maker enough room to frame around the drawers and provide good-looking inset door and drawer fronts. If you're doing Euro (full overlay) cabinets, buy the exact sizes you need. Love your content, Valentina. Keep up the good work!
@@TheFvtampa Dang it! Sold that house already! I'll scrounge around the dusty computer files and see if I can dig anything up, but I'm not making any promises.
My daughter just built her dream house and her huge kitchen is warm and beautiful with many things you are featuring here. Except for the most kitchens I see are so bold and modern. How can anyone cook or bake in those cold without any warmth kitchens ? Great tips from you. So happy to see it !
As a kitchen designer, phenomenal video with great tips!! I will say, one more thing to think about when designing your kitchen is how you use the space & what kind of baker/cook you are? What are those storage needs: do you have an excess of spices? Do you have a lot of various baking sheets/cookie trays? Do you have a lot of gadgets? etc. Those are important areas to make sure we (as kitchen designers) can accommodate for while planning your cabinetry. Loved the video Valentina!
Thanks so much for this video!!!! I've been lamenting over buying a La Cornu Cornufe' for my teensy weensy kitchen. I feel better now about investing in a statement range. I'm also going with Ikea's navy blue cabinets- thanks for the reassurance there too.
What a great idea is to take off or put additional cupboards 🤔☺. Indeed that can change your whole design and give a new look to tour kitchen. I love the ideas shown in this video, beautiful solutions, 😘😍
Thank you for the suggestions I really needed your help. I just purchased a condo and I want to redo my kitchen I'm just not sure of color for now. Hardware is my specialty because the options online are incredible. This blog answered so many of my questions I can't thank you enough. If you put on the coffee we will be there just say the word.
Watching you has inspired me to take a cabinet out and put open shelving on my log wall. Love it. Then paint underneath cabinets very dark grey! Love it. You are the best!
The #1 tip that I love is to invest money in your range - genius! I love the idea that backsplashes aren't needed; countertop goes a little up as border. Great video!
We did IKEA cabinets with doors/panels/fronts from Scherr’s. They were great to work with and the kitchen looks fantastic. We also went to the Reform showroom in Brooklyn to look at their doors and they were very high end and beautiful, but we wanted walnut. I would strongly recommend either brand to dress up IKEA cabinets on a budget.
Hi Valentina, I’ve been binge watching your videos since I discovered your channel. I also really love the music you use, would you consider creating a playlist? 😀🤍
I love your kitchen! One of my favorite things about your space is that you have you have things on your counters, and I can tell that you really use your kitchen. So often you see spotless countertops and a kitchen that is just for show. You’ve inspired me to have out the things that I use everyday, and the things that I think are beautiful ❤️
I collect and sell Vintage coupes, nothing is more fun for champagne and cocktails. I loved seeing how excited you were to receive yours. That is the little joy I hope to spread. I’m not sure how they are pronounced in French (or other languages) but in English they are pronounced “koop” with a silent e. Can’t wait to see how you style these on a table-scape or bar!
Very helpful. Moving into new house and kitchen needs some love. Just a galley kitchen so trying to figure out hiw to spiff it up until i can save up for new cabinets, counters etc.
I recently got to gut and redo a small house. Anyway, kitchen is approx 7’x9’. Tiny space. One reason for the remodel was to put in a full size fridge🤪 That’s how small. Anyway, managed one wall of 18” deep pantry cabinets. A 36” x72” window. And one wall with the fridge, sink and dishwasher. To save space on that wall I used a smaller deeper sink, actually gained counter space. Now, the fourth wall, basically knocked it out, and put a island and stove into that area. Now, more like a great room. Really came out nice. Also, did custom cabinets, less than half the price of big box stores in the finish I wanted and installed! Awesome choice to make the most of the small space. Love your videos V💕
Valentina, this has been so helpful for me! Especially the ‘permission’ to start with collecting images of all the kitchens I love without any conditions and then working backwards. Love it! 💯
I was going to swap out all the hardware in my kitchen, but then I decided to just polish the existing hardware. OMG! I had no idea they were originally so pretty. I'm still not a fan of the shape, but I'm not in such a hurry to replace them now. I can wait until I find the hardware I really want instead of settling on what I could find in my price range.
I just bought vintage coupe glasses off Craigslist! They were the person’s parents’ wedding glasses from the fifties. I love them even more knowing the back story
This was awesome Valentina! I learned alot today! I especially liked the part about the stove, I never thought of leveling up in that certain area. Thank You for all the great advice!
Hey Valentina, I absolutely love your style! I really enjoy watching and learning from you especially on nights that I cannot sleep. I feel like I’m learning the best advice from a dear sweet sister! You are such a blessing! May Yeshua bless you!😇🙏🏻😊
Starting to design my kitchen! I'm torn between taking down a wall and making the kitchen and dining 1 room or leaving it closed up. My head is spinning!! Thanks for the tips.
Im in the middle of a kitchen renovation at the moment so loved this. Just wondering if you had any tips for minimising fingerprints on dark cabinetry (aside from chopping my husband and kids fingers off lol). Or what you recommend to keep dark cabinets looking clean and not streaky 😊.
Hello from Belgium ! Thank you for this video. We are building a house. Our kitchen will be totally open on our great room. I saw that in the USA, people very often put wooden floor. I love it. It looks so beautiful, like a continuity between spaces. In Belgium, nowbody does that. I have two questions : 1) Aren’t you afraid of destroying the wooden floor next to the bassin and the oven ? 2) I saw rugs in kitchen with wooden floor. Aren’t people afraid of the change of color of the wood under the rug ? Thanks for your help.
A lot of people use vinyl planks that look like wood but it is easier to take care of. I have walnut floors in my current home, but will be putting in high end vinyl planks in my next home we build.
I love to cook and bake. I have a few bakers men that I display and wondering if it's dating my kitchen. I would appreciate some feedback. Thanks Valentina and of course Jack for all your videos. So inspiring.
Designer= (the professional who works with design) Design= Design as a noun : a deliberate, purposeful plan; the arrangements. of elements that go into human. production (in our case, landscape. architecture); the underlying.
I would love more of a shopping video at target or ikea. Seeing photos like you did in this video is helpful but O have so many images of what I want to do but can’t find the items to do them with.
Lol! Luv the way you say, if you're doing orange juice, have a nice or fancy juicer 😁 yes totally agree on that! Where can I get an Orange juicer. I have looked at GB & Wllliam Sonoma
It’s great to change your hardware, but they don’t fit in the holes from the previous ones. What to do ? I’m loving the dark kitchens you are showing in this video. Mine is wood, very pretty. We had the white and it got yellow.
I’d like to know how to update a kitchen with existing granite. I think it is so wasteful to tear it out, not to mention expensive. Obviously I could change out the backsplash, but I’d like to hear what a professional would do.
I looks so forward to your videos twice a week. So happy for your growth. Off topic but I am wondering if you mixed metals in your master bath? It looks like chrome and polished nickel. I am considering doing something similar. It’s hard to find sources for it. Thanks
What kind of glasses did you get from Etsy? It wasn’t familiar to me, it sounded like you said “Koop-a”? That can’t be right lol. Please provide. Thanks!
The issue I ran into with floors is that the labor is what costs the most. I found some very affordable wood look tiles, but it turned out the labor cost was so high that it put even these out of consideration. And I'm not fooling myself that I can install them myself ;-)
Love your channel! New subscriber 😊 Would you be able to recommend/have images for a kitchen with dark hardwood floors, dark grey cabinets and a breakfast station in a light mushroom colour cabinetry? Our home is being built (4k sq ft) and we hv to choose counters and backsplash still for the main kitchen...totally stumped since C-19 is limiting. Im not into white kitchens or farmhouse style. Many thanks!
Ciao bella! Im a new subscriber and enjoying your content. Great tips! Any tips for a kitchen cabinet colour that has to work with a stone floor in a orange colour (think Mediterranean ) that is too expensive to replace. The walls are white. I do not like the colour and our cabinets are honey beige but I am open to painting them.
I only wish your example pictures were not of over the top expensive kitchens:-( For those of us that do not have the finances to have marble countertops:-) Can you please use some more down to earth examples for some of us normal people:-) LOL Thanks! By the way....LOVE your channel!
