i use the same mold but modified mold to hold hook so jig lays flat and hook it turned up.and with a smaller hook. using 5/0 hook,they work great

Modifying the mold was a great idea! With the hooks turned up probably gives you a better chance for a hook up as well! I'd love to see how you did it if you have a video on it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and for watching! God bless!

@@wilvertperez I think you will find it fun and in the long run much cheaper than buying. I was actually just pouring more of these jigs yesterday to tie up some feather and hair bucktails. very nice video. Question for everyone, have you tried to fish with the UNPAINTED jig heads, and how did you do?

Thanks so much! I have fished with unpainted jig head in freshwater and still caught plenty of fish. I can't say one way or the other if the colors make a difference or not. Do you have to use the jig hooks with the bend or can the eyelet of let's say mustad 3407 straight shank just be placed inside the center of the jig?

You have to use the recommended hook for the mold so that both the sizing and orientation of the eye lines up with the indentation of the mold. If you wanted to use a different hook you might be able to use a dremel too to grind out a spot for the eye to set in. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and God bless!

Unfortunately that's the name of the game as we have to fish where the fish are and the bottom isn't too forgiving. That's the main reason I make my own and have them do double duty as bucktails. I hope the video was a help. Thanks for watching and may God bless you!

What's the actual cost per jig including all materials?

That is going to depend on how on the size and how many you make. If you don't include the mold because I use it for bucktails as well, here is the breakdown. Hooks are $13 a hundred, Lead is $1.50 a lb. and paint is $7. So if I make 100 jigs the average price per 2 ounce jig will be approximately 46 cents each not including my time, melting pot, electric, etc. Cost below is approximate cost (yours may differ some) for materials per 100 and does not include shipping which I get free on orders of $75. $18.75 for lead $13 for hooks $14 for paint $45.75 Total If you include the mold ($43) then it is about 90 cents a piece for the first 100 jigs. Are these as good as bottom sweepers?

I believe bottom sweepers were designed specifically for tog. They keep the hook elevated and in a straight up position for a better chance of a . But they were only designed to serve that one purpose. So in that regard if you are only targeting Tog then I think bottom sweepers would probably be a better choice. The ones in the video are a multi use jig. They are similar to the old style jigs that are still used for Tog and by adding some bucktail skirting make an awesome jig capable of catching multiple species of fish using a cast and retrieve method. I chose these because the mold and hooks are inexpensive and readily available. In additon they are more cost effective for me because I use them for fishing different methods for different fish.
