I know this video is quite old, but hopefully this info helps someone: You need to pay attention to the caps you are using. Not all capacitors are created equal. There are two key specs you need to pay attention to: ESR and ripple current rating at high frequency (10k Hz+). You want as low ESR as possible and as high ripple current rating as possible. Low ESR and high ripple current handling means the cap won't self heat thus last longer and provide optimal performance. In addition, if you can, get AEC-Q100/AEC-Q200 rated caps (check Mouser/DigiKey) which are meant for use in automotive industry. An RC car experiences shocks and vibrations like a real car does. Normal run of the mill capacitors can experience damage in such an environment (i.e. cause the cap internal insulation layer to break down, the terminals to experience micro fractures, etc).

Thx for the video, assuming that many people didn’t know how to make them. I never thought about that, because it’s electronic/physics base knowledge how resistors, capacitors and coils function- so I thought. Sadly many people don’t even know what AC/DC is- come on you ought to know both: the band and the current/voltage form. There is some thinking help: What happens if you insert a resistor in a circuit ? In this case it doesn’t matter whether it’s ac or dc. It’s only a real resistance and if it was water, it’s like someone is pinching a water hose and thus the current is lower, now matter if it runs forth and back. A capacitor is a ac resistance- the lower the frequency the more resistance. The lowest is 0Hz , which is DC, and won’t pass at all, but the cap will load itself. Is like a hose into a reservoir: when the reservoir is full there is no more current of water flowing in. So it would be bad to solder it in line to a battery pack. But for a Hifi tweeter it’s a good thing, so it’s fine other AC resistance - a coil- wouldn’t burn by high current low frequencies. When you add resistors in line they add their resistance, but for caps you have to solder them in parallel to add their capacity. A coil would let go low frequencies like 0Hz DC but the higher the frequency the stronger the magnetic field would be and keep the ac current low. So o e would solder a coil inline with a big woofer for filtering out high frequencies. This was a little mnemonic to recall what a coil and capacitor do. When you use them in parallel they behave different/ the other way. So with this knowledge, some mathematics and some more Wikipedia knowledge everyone can solder a cap pack or a Hifi 🔈 So, a cap is filtering low frequencies, because it blocks 0Hz (DC IS AC with 0Hz...) and a coil the other way.

Hi. I’m not sure what application you want to use it for but try keep it simple and use a low Esr capacitor 35V or 50V. I haven’t tried a Cappack with 12S capability before. @WigganRC

You choose a capacitor larger than the voltage your running. So 6S use 35v Caps ect. You won’t blow esc’s with larger caps as they store and release energy to fill ripples in voltage spikes

I’m planing to use the 35v capacitors, so I’m thinking for the 3s system I can use 2 of the capacitors and for the 4s/5s I can use 4 capacitors, am I on the correct path or I should add any extra for anyone of them?

What's size caps to buy to run 8s?
@WigganRC
@WigganRC 5 лет назад
I’ve never run 8s sorry. Sure it would be similar or slight increase in caps

Just buy a simple sealing fan cap pack with a single positive and negative wire attached. About the same size as the one this dude just made.

How do I know what is the right cap I need?im running Max5 on 8s Is pack of 4cap 470uf 50v good enough?thanks Also where do u get those huge heat shrink tubes?
@WigganRC
@WigganRC 5 лет назад
All caps do is store and release energy so there is a stock formula as far a I know. I ordered 1000uf Panasonic caps for their quality. You can use 470uf but I would use 6 for 8s minimum. Heat shrink is 100mm from Hobbyking. 👍🏾😀 Good luck and don’t forget to subscribe to the channel 😀

You really should isolate those pcb traces or just use this breadboard upside down with some plastic sheet between. Now when you crash and one wire touches another you’ll have fireworks.

Did you notice any difference in the performance or heat reduced? by the way, this is a great video. Thank you so mouch
@WigganRC
@WigganRC 6 лет назад
Did a test with a motor and esc and gave power without caps plugged in and then attached caps while motor was running and rpm increased. I believe the added storage of voltage adds more power and efficiency without drawing more amps 👍🏿

Wiggan RC nice, do you think the bigger capacitor is better?
@WigganRC

Still trying to work that out. Finding the right balance is the key to speed runs 👍🏿

Wiggan RC Interesting, I would like to know what is the equation for choosing the right size
@WigganRC
@WigganRC 6 лет назад
You’ll have do some research and base it on your own setup. Try different caps and voltage.
