In this video, I will show you how to make your own encaustic paints using oil paint. Materials Needed R&F Encaustic Medium Oil Paint Metal Tin Hot Plate Palette Knife
Christopher- thank you SO much for doing this video! I'm in South Africa and with the current rate of exchange, would pay 15 PLUS times more for the already very expensive encaustic paints, but that's not all.... most often times the shipping costs more than the item you purchase and then you still have to add import taxes AND vat. Needless to say, it's not easy to forget the expense when you start a painting..... instead of feeling free, you are held captive by the exorbitant expense of art materials. Your video made a HUGE difference!!! Thanks again!!! 😄😄😄
Fantastic! Thank you! Have you ever used an Encaustic Stylus? I just bought one along with some expensive wax paint blocks. Now that I've seen your vid, I will definitely DIY it next time! 😊
Christopher, that's a good video. My issue is which white oil paint works best for making the encaustic paint..... lead base or titanium or another. I have one that I made a while back and forget which of my white oil paints I used and the paint never totally dissolved and left chunks floating in the paint/wax medium.
There isn't much oil in the paint, so there is no effect on the wax. Just do not add any additional oil to the paint. You can also use dry pigment and add it to the wax medium. Hope this helps.
@@kaiweekes566 on RU-vid, look up wax Wednesdays by Shari Replogle, I know she incorporates pastels with encaustics, I have no experience with that myself so I cannot say, maybe she knows more. Hope this helps.
There is no correct ratio. You could actually just paint with wax without any damar resin. All the resin does is increase the melting point and hardness of the wax. If you look online, you can find many different ratios of how much to add. Hope this helps.
