@@Flintknappingadventures I’m getting a little anxious on the class. They tell me everything will be provided. I found some flint down our road and started percussion with a hammer stone. First quick lesson. Don’t get a finger between the hammer and flint! 🤣
I enjoy making the tools for all my hobbies... I rounded out a 3/4in. end cap with a ball bearing and a socket..pretty simple... if you have alot of deer in your area. They should be shedding antlers soon, get out in the woods...maybe you'll get lucky. At 2:09 learned they sell antlers at Petco...didn't know that Thanks alot for the tip
hammerstones are based on location. here in Virginia creeks don't hardly ever have the right consistency that are useful however landscape rock here has perfect hammerstones. I would even say that landscape can have the best sandstone/quartzite hammerstones on the east coast but I'm not familiar with New England landscape. I test it either with jeans or shorts. if you place the rock u think can be a good hammerstone on you pants leg and raise it up with little pressure if it brings up your pants by just friction alone it is a good hammerstone. learned that from one of Erret Callahan's students down in NC that made Danish daggers out of rhyolite. forgot his name.
At 4:32 how do you coat the bopper handles with rubber? Is it a paint on liquid, or do you dip them? 4:57 My next question was going to be about the abraider. I don't have a decent one & wondered if a broken bench grinding wheel would be good. Thanks for answering that! Maybe that will give me longer flakes. If you don't mind a 3rd question; saw a video on making blades with a chest crutch. Have you ever used those? I want to give that a try. Thanks for great content. Blessings
Aye, if anyone needs some old leather, find an old welder. Ask If they have an old welders blanket (or apron). Mine is a quarter inch thick, no idea what it's from, but I've never cut all the way through it.... Yet
