Use acetone (nail polish remover) to soak your bearings in, and shake them around in the acetone to loosen all the dirt. After about 5 minutes of doing that just set them on a paper towel. Once dry re-lube with speed cream and pop those caps back in. Good as new, if not better!
This is great! I've been skateboarding for about two months now and barely had any idea how to do maintenance on my board. So this video really helps a lot, especially with all the detailed explanation! I literarily got the squeaking today and was sure something was up with my bushings... Thank you so much, you're saving a lot of boards with this! xD
Thanks a lot m8 just fixed my bearings, I live in the Middle East and it’s kinda hard to find a reliable skate shop to fix it for you so thank you like a lot 😊
“Railed so hard you can be featured as johnny sins new patient hes doing an oral exam on.” alr bro ima head out i think i just died from laughing too hard
*flashbacks to the time my little brother jumped on the middle of my skateboard snapping it in half* Moral of the story you can never make anything last forever if you have siblings
Having 2 decks helps .My newest(ish) 2014 vert set-up is pretty much pristine, usual grind trials and general skating marks.. while my 2006 street deck is trashed. Not a single bit of maintenance. A super loose, splinted, razor burned to hell death trap. Got so used to how it rides, I wouldn't dream of changing a single component of it. Famous last words?!
Holy shit. I took a brake from the skating scene and when I come back you’re at 160k. Damn I was around when you were at 10k. Congrats on the milestone.
I’m so high I litterly watched this whole video and after 13 out of my 18 years on earth that I’ve been watching RU-vid I finally liked and subscribed to a RU-vid video for the first time and I forgot what else I was gonna say but hell yea skating keeps me busy and out of trouble just recently started back after losing my job, as a way to keep positive activity constant while I search for further employment and have already accomplished a lot and hope I just don’t break my ankle again🤙🏽🤙🏽
I washed my bearings in water before putting them in rust converter- strong acid solution. As long as you dont let it dry with some residual water on it it's ok.
Nahh mate, Risers are for rising the trucks of course, but they are specifically for preventing your board from stress cracks, they are literal bushings for between the board and trucks. Also Rails do protect the botton of the board a lot more, they also help with stability and rigidity, they lessen the amount of flex in the center of the board, and further towards the nose, and tail, as well as preventing the area between the trucks from getting soggy longer, and stopping the board from breaking for a lot longer from multiple things if the rails go slightly past the inside face of the truck base, from just drops, to even just simple board slides. Those things are up to personal preference of course, but for myself, I need boards to last me as long as possible, and those things allow me to skate them for about two, two and a half months, as opposed to about a month without, just what I've found these past 20 years Great vids mate, always super nice to watch with others while getting hyped to go out and skate
Dude thanks for the tip about the squeaky bushings. I'm gonna try it because it drives me nuts when I start hearing them squeak. Once I hear I can't unhear them lol
Another tip: Always try to land on your bolts, especially if you're doing big sets. This will prevent the board snapping on impact. Easier said than done though.
Another cool trick I learned as a woodworker that also works on griptape: we used plastic bags to clean sandpaper, just rub it in there and dirt should disappear
I was going to show this to my 14yr old nephew to teach him about skating. And when you made that Johnny sins joke, I thought just to teach him this myself. That was funny as hell. You get a like and sub just for that
Lol I don't maintain bearings I just buy 10-15 bones reds and replace them every few months, sometimes I'll just buy new wheels too, like I'll buy two sets of wheels and 4 sets of bearings and call it a day
Wheels I can understand because once they wear down to a certain point they can make tricks way more difficult, but bearings? I know reds are cheap to replace, but I’ve had the same set for like 2 years, but of bones speed cream and de cluttering and they still serve me well....each to their own I guess haha!
Awesome video !! I would recommend using sandpaper to prevent razor tail. Sand 'er down every few sessions...sure the tail gets slightly smaller over time, but its a much more practical solution than tail/nose protectors. Keep 'er curvy. :)
for pivot cups, you can also use your speed cream, or any skate lube, add 1 or 2 drops, put everything back on, and wiggle it a bit, and you're good! it'll also feel responsive. too much lube will leak on inpact, but it doesnt do anything, its just a eyesore.
If you wax your board or put on a layer of woodclue and buy some waterproof barrings you're good to go in the rain! In the 90ties rain didn't stop skateboarders. It's a 5 minute fix to change the barrings or just have a spare board for rainy days.
I've found that mixing GooGone and rubbing alcohol then shaking the dirty bearings in it works good. The GooGone traps all the dirt and separates from the rubbing alcohol.
Best investment for skaters....especially for me is the grind king reverse kingpin bolt.....ive had mine for over 10 years....only needed to swap axles.
WD-40* is your friend for preventing bearing corrosion. Unless your bearings are all ceramic or stainless, in which case corrosion isn't likely a problem for you. * The "WD" stands for "Water Displacing". It's a multi-purpose solvent that happens to work as a lightweight mechanical lubricant, and it's especially good at pushing water away from metal machine parts.
1:24 Shout out to Ground Floor Skateboards in Rockford, IL, west of Chicago. Very cool small local shop you guys should definitely check out if you're in the area.
It didn't pop up in my feed until at least 1 day almost 2 days late and I have freaking Google Fibre 1GB Internet speed. What's up with that? RU-vid needs to speed it up!!!!
You can use water for bearings, i have done that many times, you just have to make sure they dry faster, use a blowdryer. I know it sounds crazy but its true. and then lube it and boom, ur good to go.
I have a pair of the Johnny Romano thunder trucks that came out in 2009 I believe it was and I didn’t even skateboard at the time someone gave them to me and only now I’m trying to really start skating so yeah 10-11 year old trucks never maintained and they work as good as anything 😁
To clean grip tape you can use electric air compressors like the ones used to inflate car tyres. It works great, you'd be surprised ;) Best method so far
You can use Windex and a new tooth brush to clean your grip just don't leave a puddle do a little at a time or it will seep through into your wood I use mob grip so it already has holes in the grip to prevent air bubbles just be sparing with it doesn't take much at all you should get a white soapy residue it'll pick up the dirt after that just blot it down with a dark towel let it dry and your gravy 👌
dude i dropped my board on the ocean on monday midnight, i was drunk and then i jumped in the water but i didn't found this. so i came back the next day and i found this ! sorry for my english, i live in reunion island (biggest shark attack number in the world) THRASHER BRU
9:43 please listen to this it's important they'll eventually fall off while you're riding and if you lose it it's a huge pain in the ass trying to get some more hardware especially if you don't have a local skateshop near you
At 9:51 that’s my old board I got when I was 6 and liked skateboarding I didn’t even learn to push hahaha wasted money. It’s thrashed rn and super small so I got a new board at 15 and I love it
if you are lazy and don't want to re-lube your bearings every month or two, you can pack them up with grease instead of oil (e.g. white lithium) which will last alot longer won't roll quite as fast tho so if you can deal w that then grease is a good deal
