This is why I love You Tube videos. Whether its changing the brake pads on the car or now connecting my new laptop to my WD My Cloud drive I always find what I need to show me how to do it. This video was spot on with how to connect the drive. Easy to follow and spot on directions. Thanks.
Just wanted to say thanks for this vid. I bought a new PC last month (Feb 2021) and completely forgot how to map my "WDCloud Drive". In my case, my new PC did recognize the WDCLOUD Drive and it is accessible. But, would only show 3 folders (default, I believe): Music, Photos & Videos and when I click on any folder it would show all files at once, listed by numerical and alphabetical order. But when I mapped it as a drive, as shown here, I am able to to view my files broken into the folders I placed/created them in as intended...just in case anyone was wondering or was stuck with the similar issue.
Was trying to figure out what to do after WD went to GoodSync and a new computer. It had been forever since I had actively used My Cloud and needed to set it up. If RU-vid allowed stars, I would give you 5 Stars. Very clear instructions and graphics. Exactly what I needed to get My Cloud going again. Thanks!
wooooow I don't know why it took so long to discover this video ...but finally I got map my WD. You were more helpful than WD site, support, etc. Thanks Roman
Thank goodness for this video! I did have 1 issue... On the WD MyCloud site under "shares", make sure "media serving" and "public access" is toggled "ON". Mine was not on, and it took me a few minutes to figure out why I couldn't see my files on the Twonky Server. Once I toggled it to ON, the files started to upload to Twonky and I was able to finish up the direct mapping. This video was a huge help!!
Thanks for posting this video. It helped me a lot and now, finally, my MyCloudMirror drive is visible on the local network where I have transfers of 100MB / s. Previously, I was connecting to the disk via the Internet, where I had a 10MB / s upload :( Now I can fully use this equipment. Thanks again and greetings from Poland.
Very helpful walk thru! In my case I had previously mapped WD drives from an old computer appearing on my new PC. I could access Twonky and the original My Cloud "web" page, so things looked good..... Anyway to reconnect the drives I Right Clicked the drives to Disconnect them (they disappear) and then followed your steps to Re-Map them!
This was super helpful!!! Thanks a lot! Took me quite some time to do the router thingy. Had to reset router, then absorb the nagging from me wifey because the net was down for a bit...
Dear Alfred, I think this video will help many with similar situations. I am pretty familiar with WD MyCloud Home. I never got around to using Tonky although I have browsed to it. Now I am using a more capable product, a MyCloud NAS (My Cloud Pro Series 4-Bay NAS). I know how to map the shares I created on the NAS to a Windows computer. I am having difficulty mapping the shares I've created on the NAS to the Windows 10 client desktop PCs or laptops. Some PCs I am able to while others I am not able to. I am perplexed. I am using the NAS on a business network where there are files on a Windows Server. I want to eventually migrate to using the NAS only.
Thank you, you make it look so easy and actually it is once you know how to, I have been trying to find the answer on how to do this everywhere. Thanks again. :)
I had problem that it could not find the cloud, after disabling firewall for a minute it worked (I have Zone alarm free firewall) swapped it to windows firewall and it works great.
Thanks for sharing! Will keep that in mind, never happened to me since I always use Windows Firewall. Any other third party seem to be too aggressive and require quite a bit set up prior they start acting normal.
Can I connect the mycloud directly to my internet router so I don't have to leave my computer on to use the mycloud on my phone? Also, is it possible to set up the mycloud so I can use it on my phone from anywhere?
Answer for all your questions is "yes". The stock app allows you to have global access through internet and the drive should be connected to the router via ethernet port. No need to connect it to the computer. That's the whole point of mapping
Thank u for this brief and useful tutorial. I have a question; Say My wd drive is hooked to my modem. Is it possible to use the same scenario via wi-fi .? or I have to hard wire my laptop to use it as a network drive..?
Hi Roman, thanks for this video! It is very useful and great! I have a doubt, is it possible to use direct map using and external PC (from other site/house)? Thanks!
Correct! PC has to be on the same network with drive or you need to have a remote access to your network to access the drive. Otherwise, your only option is to go with Twonky server that comes with the drive, but very slow when compared with direct access
Nope, for that, you would have to have direct access to your home network, which is doable, but may open a lot of vulnerabilities. I would just use the built in server mode and access it through browser as originally intended when I am away.
Hi! No, I don't have mac video but it should be somewhat the same. If your device lost the remote access due to WD discontinuation, then it is not accessible anymore from outside of your network. A solution could be having a remote access to your home network and then accessing your drive. Another solution is to set up a home server, get one of the free cloud apps and connect your drive to the server.
@@macturner80 it still works as home network drive, or do you mean to access it remotely? I think buying a new one is better, maybe stay away from WD all together and switch to Synology, they got some neat solutions. That would be an easy way out.
now that i know how to do thix, the other computer on windows 11 that i am trying to connect to the drive wants login credentials. I did not create network creds with this process though... i am now stuck.
Incorrect. You just need to login into your drive through browser on new computer. After that follow this process or another one posted more recently and you should get the access
@@RomanDoes Nope, nothing. They won't even access the password any more, yet I'm still able to reconnect the other two after disconnecting them, without any issues!
Answer is - depends. If you have this outdated MyCloud, I would not do that. Main reason - it is slow and if you plan to record continuos video from multiple cameras, you may run into issues. Secondly, they stopped all support for these units and recommended to disconnect the unit from internet. Meaning, you cannot use FTP, which is insecure... So maybe it's time for an upgrade to Synology?🤔
Do you have access to it? Before you can login into it remotely, you need to login into it through web browser on the same network, only then it will let you access it. Also, do you see it in your Network environment?
@@RomanDoes ye, but who transfer their enormous backup files frequently 🤷🏻♂️ these nas supposed to last for quite some time, any ways thank god your channel exists
Just don't store adult videos on it🤫, then there is no need to have private folder😀. If you need the drive to be private, use the web access or plug it in straight into your computer. Video is about mapping it, not about building private network with restricted user access rules. Maybe I should make one! 🤔
@@RomanDoes I have found solution! in Wind10 there is need to enable using Insecure acces in registers So now i cann use acces for users so I can share diferent folders with my famiilly and with friends. \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation adding DWORD AllowInsecureGuestAuth value 1
Once you access the online settings of your drive through WD, there will be a "Users" tab, click on it and in the bottom left corner will be a window with all users, which you can add, remove, or rename
@@RomanDoes I've logged into my router several times before to do things like MAC address filtering etc.. using IP address... It's an Arris Comcast xFinity router.
@@Ottonic6 that should be in the same menu setting where you did you mac set-ups, just might be called differently. Lucky for you, one of my routers is the same as yours, let me check on that one 😉
did this video do the trick for you? Now you have to subscribe and like every video I have! :D ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D7DwD2v8iag.html
Everyone hete saying thank you and grest video, but to me its like heart surgery, i just want a simple way to look at my device(my cloud) on a desktop,, help please!!!!!
Please Help me I can send you my cell number or what shall I do Please help me Since I upgrade my wd cloud I cannot access with my cellphone as some founders I cannot access
There are many ways to access WD Cloud, but direct mapping is the best! Please don't forget to smash Like & Subscribe buttons if this solution worked for you! This helps other people find it faster and helps my channel a lot. There is also another solution I tend to use a lot, check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8QKJBp6Bzps.html Thank you!
@@Bmad185 why would you download it? Its optional software. What are you trying to set up? I think your drive should come with some sort of alternative to it, since its a cloud version as well
