How to massage your cute bird to get rid of pinfeathers - pet me! Sun conure named Thoth

This is Thoth- she gets lazy & doesn't break up the pinfeathers around her head & neck so she gets chilly. By releasing the new feathers that are trapped inside the little tube they form in, you increase the surface area exponentially which helps keep warm air next to her body. This is a similar concept as to why down feathers make coats & blankets so warm!

Its best to let them come out and off naturally which is to groom them because they are social birds and would be getting groomed from another bird. So it really is beneficial and some very high quality 1 on 1 time. You should watch a video of how to manage pin feathers because this is just a basic video, other videos go far into what to do and what NOT to do which is way more important.

Apparently blowing on them can turn them on as well. I didn't know and kept blowing at my bird when she bit herself for her to stop coz calling to her doesn't work. Turns out she doesn't bite hard coz I intercepted her beak quite a few times and it doesn't even hurt, she does it for attention.. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Mia Zakky it's taken years for her to have this level of trust. I talked to and gently handled her every day and if she was in a bad mood, I left her alone for that day. I cover her cage with a blanket at night to keep her warm, so it's ok if the pin feathers are there. Birds need daily attention for sure. It also helped that I spoon fed her as a chick.

You have to build trust very slowly. Do not try to touch him or scare him in any way. If you leave the door open, when he's ready he'll start to come out of the cage to explore. From there, proceed cautiously to avoid setbacks. Google the subject for more help.

There not pin feathers, it actually means your bird is moulting. Which is when new feathers come in. It’s the same as when we have dead skin, that falls off. Just be carful with its wing when it’s moulting, because the feather could break creating a blood feather, and it will bleed to death.
